Today we are celebrating Thanksgiving in Canada and we had somewhat of a reality check that gave the holiday a whole new meaning...

We were in town on our way home when we pulled onto the highway. Hubby noticed a bookbag laying on the side of the highway and decided he should attempt to see if there was a name on it to return it to it's rightful owner.

As we were backing up a gentleman came from who knows where (apparently he was hiding somewhere - we didn't see him) and came running towards the van - turns out he was hitch hiking. Tracy almost left but I told him not to (not that I wanted to pick up a hitch hiker, but I thought it was kind of rude to stop and then take off as he was coming towards the van). We took the man to the local truck ctop (close to home) thinking he might have a better chance of getting home. The kids were all in the back seat of the van (and it's the quietest they've ever been in the van).

Anyway, the man was travelling across country trying to get home, ran out of money two days ago in Ontario, etc. We went home and prepared a meal for him (who knows when the last time was that he ate) and brought it back to him.

So this thanksgiving we have far more to be appreciative of - we take for granted all the things we have - the food on our table, the warm home that we have, etc. We are so thankful to have been able to help someone who was in obvious need

I don't normally stop and pick up hitch hiker's - you hear horror stories of bad things happening, but we did stop and in doing so were able to provide a meal for a man who needed it - something I'm sure Jesus Himself would have done if He were here right now.

God Bless and even though it's early - Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.

Brenda, your story reminded me of something I did some years ago.
I saw a guy on the side of the road walking, and I thought it was an old boyfriend. I pulled over to give him a ride.
My heart fell into my gut when I saw it was a total stranger- after he was in my car!
It all worked out, but whoa- I was lucky
It is sad that there are those who don't have. A local paper is doing stories right now on domestic violence, and my heart feels for every one of the women and kids living with that.

You did a good thing, though, Brenda. You made a big difference to that hitchhiker.

it was only a short drive from where we picked him up to where we took the man, but it was the quietest the kids have ever been while in the van
