My 5 year old has figured out, all on his own, how to put the sounds of letters together to sound out words. I take a slow and relaxed view on pre K and K and we have been working on letter shapes and sounds(using the explode the code primers), but I didn't realize he was ready to read, he decided to show me otherwise While I wouldn't push him I am excited to see him putting this together and love seeing how excited he is when he sounds out a word
HOW EXCITING!!! my dh has also suddenly begun to sight read a few simple words...such a great feeling!
hee hee sorry...my dd, not dh (he reads fine!)! Thats what happens when you type with a baby in one arm!
Honestly, I was going to say GOOD FOR HIM!!! It is never to late to learn to read! LOL Then you clarified! Soo funny!
YAY!!!! Go Mama!!!! My 5-year old (just turned it in March) just started doing the same about the week before her birthday!!! I was so excited. She's reading pretty well now and ASKS to read to me every day!!! I'm TOTALLY loving this one!!! I had originally not planned to really include her in our scheduling for next year (just to do basic stuff with her), but now I'm including her! She's ASKS everyday what she can do for school...she's so eager to learn I can't turn her away!!! I LOVE HOMESCHOOLING. In my crazy, stressful, life, these moments are such highlights!
Thanks guys, I knew you guys could relate to the excitement. Looks like there are several of us there right now, it is so much fun to see them learning. I can't take much credit for this milestone, but I am sure glad I got to be the one to see it I am more of a better late than early person and didn't even start K for the oldest until he was 6. But with the younger I have to find things to keep him busy and he wants to do school most days so here we are. I am a little worried about him and the older competing since things seem to be coming easier to little brother. older brother struggles with reading.
