Just thought I'd update you all. The new house is fantastic. I was worried that since I couldn't keep my little house clean this one, which is almost 4 times the size, would be a nightmare. Not so. With so much space everything has it's place and with such a relaxing house housework doesn't seem like such a chore. The wildlife is fantastic. Sure, to get to our house you have to drive off the main road then off the side road then over a bumpy dirt road but we saw a Barred Owl Wed. night and we've been visited 5 times sine yesterday by a doe who loves the parsnip pile the previous owners left behind. She feeds 20 feet from the dining room doors! I had no idea how much stress a house could put on a person until we moved here and all the stress of trying to manage our run down little house was lifted. This is heaven. Oh, and we're fixing up a downstairs bedroom for a guest bedroom plus we have lots of floor space for sleeping bags in case anyone wants a cheap Nova Scotian vacation!
I am glad you got into your neat little house in the woods. ........ owls...... I guess you will have to disect owl pellets.
dissecting owl pellets, Amy? brings me back to jr high, such fun! Dawn, we have deer in our yard as well, just wait till you have baby deer, that will be so fun, and when the bucks get their antlers back, your kids will really enjoy the wildlife, at least mine really do! I just hope you dont have the friendly visitor we had the other night. We kept hearing something crying so we looked out our frontroom window, and guess what was stuck in the lattice on our front porch?!?!?!?!? A SKUNK!! Of course he had sprayed bc it stank horrible, well he finally got out, and then later my dh, (cover your eyes if you are animal rights sensitive), shot him. We really dont like having to worry about our dc getting sprayed, the skunk had been in our yard one day and our dc were trying to catch it!! Yikes, and one more visitor, we had a big snapping turtle in our yard last fall, but i scooped him up in a big metal tub and took him down to the creek. Hopefully HE wont return, lol.
Hi Dawn, Welcome back to the Spot! So thrilled to hear that you are settling in nicely into the new home. I wish we had owls...instead, we get the odd wandering goat ( not as pretty or interesting!)
CONGRATLULATIONS! IO'm glad it's working out well for you, and that you love your new home! Watch out, since you have more space, you tend to get more things to fill it, then pretty soon you have the "too much stuff, and hard to clean the house" syndrome again! I love being able to see wildlife! Enjoy the beauty!
That's my biggest fear! I need to do another purge of the kids stuff. Even though I purged it before we came and they now have a playroom there's just too much stuff. The playroom is packed and so they never use it!
We used to bag up a pile of stuff and put it in the garage. 3 or 4 months later we'd bag up the stuff they had out and pull out the bagged up stuff. It kept less in the room, and the kids were excited to see their old favorites, so it kept them interested! The room was way less crowded, and they played in there!
I'll put my reservations in right around July 4th, is that ok. Don't want it to be too cold. That is a ways north. I'm ready for warm weather and sunshine. Here I come Kris
Oh gosh, We're no more north then Maine. July here is beautiful - Warm enough for shorts and t-shirts but not the sweltering days of August yet. Come a few days early and you'll be here for all the Canada Day celebrations!
