Ok, I'm being super picky here. I need a world map and I really thought it'd be easy to find what I wanted *WRONG ANSWER*.

In one of my History books (The one from 1890), it has you start the year by making a HUGE map on the wall and put a timeline under it and then as you study histoy you map each event on the world map and the timeline. Truly it must have been an artistic teacher that freehand drew such a map!

Anyhow I have decided to do this and keep it up from when we start history on. Origionally I was going to wait till 3rd grade to begin History, but Sami has devloped an incredible fascination with maps and geography so I think we will do it sooner.

I'm no artisit to free hand draw a huge map of the world so my plan is to buy that clear plastic stuff you get at the fabric store for protecting tables and covering the wall with it and using a projector to enlarge a map and trace it on there. Now I can't find an outline type map that includes the whole world, the state/provence divisions, Country divisions, and (if I were to feel I had a perfect world) Latitude and longitude lines.

I found a couple (Blurry) one that have the country divisions and the states of the US but no Canadian Provences etc. I found one that would be impossible to trace cause it had too many details marking something about WW2. Not one of what I want.

I suppose if I have to I'll stop being picky and free hand the provences and the Latitude and longitude lines. But that seems scary to me. LOL Does anyone know of a site where I could find a map like this?

Sherry, I REALLY LIKE that map! I haven't found one that is blank, so I am very tempted to get this one! What great practice that will be for the kids! And instead of the small ones they're using, it could make more of an impact when it's larger like that!

    Thanks for the tip!

We have a world blackline map with all the divisions you mentioned and the longitude/latitiude lines. I got it at a curriculum fair for about $10. It has the USA on the reverse side, but I rarely use that side (have another map for that). It is laminated. I use Vis-a-Vis markers to trace the areas that we are learning about. Wipes right off! Here is the website on the map. I didn't try it, so I hope it works!

    www.geomatters.com

The map is called "Uncle Josh's World Mark-It Map" by Robinson Produtions. Maybe some of this info will help you! :)

That draw on it map is cool! What a great idea! I was thinking of just putting plastic coating on my map and then marking different trips the exploreres and all went on when. But that one would give so much more to do! WOW!

Yes, the Canadian Provinces are there. All of the countries are outlined on the continents, too. It's been a really great map! Well worth $10.

I haven't found exactly what I want yet, I warned I was picky. LOL I do appriciate all the suggestions, I see a few I may get when my money situation improves.

That geomatters one looks really cool but it's not quite what I want for this project. Sami is super excited about getting to help trace it herself, plus I have only $3 left in my current Homeschooling Budget. :(

I'm searching all the clipart and websites that include a map for various things. The ones that are closest I found so far are actually from those clickable maps people use to have you enter a site according to where you live. Even a very small one cam be enlarged to fill one printed page and then the projector I'm borrowing will enlarge it to what ever size looks good on my wall.

Oh I am getting that big plastic sheeting that people buy to protect their dining room tables and covering a whole wall. the projector will make it HUGE. (I'll photo copy the map onto transparency)

I just found this one.. Just what I want(If I add in my own latitute and longitude lines) ... The lines are just so light colored I hope they copy well!

That looks just like my Mark-It map, except mine has no color and does have latitude and longitude lines.

I'd like to have copies of the one you found for my kids to have individually. Where did you find this one?

    Syele,
My 20 year old married daugher thinks I'm a geek for playing geography games online just for fun. She was making fun of me doing this last night so I just said "Hey, don't tell me I'm not having fun, this is fun to me." I didn't learn much in school the first time around. That is why the Lord is having me homeschool. Because I really need to do school again by homeschooling them. LOL.
