I have been homeschooling my grandchildren since preschool. So far we have done a ton of crafts, paint often and really enjoy all types of clay . I would like to add morre this year. Can anyone give me a little help ?
Donna, Are you looking for a curriculum style program or just ideas? I use the "I CAN DO ALL THINGS, HOW GREAT THOU ART" Program with my two. This is a beginning drawing and painting program, and I'm learning right along with them. :wink: Tammy
My local library carries a series of books called "Artists' Workshop" that I really like. They are written by Penny King and Clare Roundhill, put out by Crabtree Publishing. The series includes "Landscapes", "Portraits", "Animals", and "Stories". I also thnk there's a "Myths" book not listed on the back of the one I got. Anyway, the book is designed to show pictures by famous artists. The Landscapes book I now have contains six different works of art/artists. It starts with one on a double page spread, telling a little about the artist and his work. Then on the next double page spread, it gives about three different activities you might do based on this artist. In the back, it also has a page that gives a short paragraph on each artist with more information. I have found the activities enjoyable and DO-ABLE. There's lots of variety as far as materials.

Jumping in at the tail here... We are loving the "Teaching Art to Children" book by Evan-Moor. It takes you through the procedure of art, from straight lines to color/hue and more. The projects are all illustrated with great full-color photos and really encourage the kids to pick up a paintbrush or scissors and just go for it! However, it's structured enough that they are actually being directed to learn something. I consider it very successful as my younger son (going into second grade and who hates all arts and crafts) liked one project he did so much that he taped it up over his bed and asked me to keep it forever. That's a ringing endorsement!
We use... Two drawing series.... Draw, Write Now Draw Then Write I like them both but I think the Draw Then Write is good for 2nd grade and up especially. It has very good writing activities to go along with the art. You can also find lots of art ideas from just doing an internet search for the grade levels your are needing........like "2nd grade art lessons" and you should find some! Good luck!

Art What we do, is for one month we do one form of art. I teach all about say, sculpting. Pick out a few top sculptors to study, then work on different ways to do the sculpting. Each week, we use a different medium. Clay one week, and eventually work to soap. Each week I read about a different sculptor. It works out well. After the month, we move on to a different art form.
