Today was one of those beautiful midwest spring days that I just couldn't keep the kids indoors thru!!!! I piled them in the van and took them up to the barn where I give riding lessons. Right now we are studying birds for science. As we walked into the pasture a Red-tailed hawk flew right over us clutching a wriggly snake in its talons!!!!! It was amazing and led to a wonderful discussion on this species of bird!!!! I remember thinking...."This is why we homeschool!"
Awww yes.. we have had moments like that! We watched this GIANT mystery bird eating a beautiful rainbow trout one time.. right in our yard in a tree! It lead to some fun searching and comparing the pics we took of the bird to ones we found online.. and we learned he was an Ospray.. which lead to a trip to a lake that has an animal "center" (lots of stuffed animals with info about them) to learn about more. (that's why in your daily routine thread I said we don't have one )
I love these moments. I just hope my kids look back fondly on things like this. Some days it seems my oldest is nothing but bored and unexcited about the outdoors.
