I went to a big homeschool conference in my state last week. I’d taken a break for a few years, because I really didn’t need anything, but I do love going and looking. This year the main speaker was Dr. Jeff Myers of Summit Ministries; it was worth the admission and time to hear him speak. As far as vendors go, there were a few new booths that I found interesting.

Masterbooks was new to me. Their curriculum packages were rich in science (creation-based) and seemed reasonably priced. http://www.nlpg.com/homeschool

I sat through a presentation from Rivendell Sanctuary. It’s a Christian 5-pursuit honors program in which students earn an associates degree. It’s a unique program for high school grads; the young man who spoke said that he had been a reluctant and sometimes struggling student when he first enrolled, but their Socratic and modular approach has made him a lover of education. Anyway, check it out if you have junior or senior... http://rivendell.sdcc.edu/ . It’s expensive, but I think you can get financial aid. It peaked my daughter’s interest.

Finally, I bought Secrets of Great Communicators, a brief Speech course taught by Dr. Jeff Myers. He was a fantastic communicator. There was a leadership and world changers DVD series too. http://www.summit.org/store/Secrets-of-Great-Communicators-TRAINING-KIT/

That’s my main “finds” for this years conference.

Jeff Myers was at our conference a few years ago. He is a great speaker.
