Loved Ronald Reagans's quote of scariest phrase - "We're from the government and we're here to help."
HSLDA has been working on H.R.2343 Here is a link on what they say http://www.hslda.org/Legislation/National/2007/HR2343/default.asp The other act is still in committee
I know it is scary! I cant immagine being in the hospital after having a baby and a social worker showing up to enroll me and my baby into some goverment program. Notice how they target the poor? Its always low income people that they go after first. Its like they are saying that poor people cant possibly be good parents or raise a child without the government taking over.
What's also annoying is that its called the "Education Begins at Home" Act. Here in Virginia, our homeschool license plates....say "Education Begins at Home" across the bottom. Sure hope it doesn't pass because that'll be horrible if folks think we're supporting that!! Of course, the license plate also has a picture of a house with a graduation cap in it so hopefully folks would realize the difference but who knows!! Rhonda C.
YIKES! The only suggestion I have is VOTE, VOTE, VOTE! We really do need to watch what is going on or next thing you now someone will be knocking on your door, "I'm from the government and I'm here to help." AAAAHHHHH
Vote, email and call your representatives. If you do not voice your opinion the groups who are louder will win.
I have been getting in the habit of contacting my representatives to voice my opinion and I'll be sure to include this one. It is scary to think of all the power the government can take from parents in the name of "help" if we are not careful.
I don't feel it's because they don't have the ability to make a stand, some don't want to and some are intimidated by the system. Some are comfortable with the thought that the government will take care of them. Unfortunately that is socialism. I prefer to take care of myself! I know someone who has been on welfare for oodles of years and her thinking is "they owe it to me" and she is not bothered by the govt intrusion into her life and finances just as long as she gets her welfare check, food stamps, free medical care (to have more babies), dental and vision, not to mention a car, gas vouchers,...............................need I go on?
It's all a sickness -- one generation teaches the next that being dependent on our govt. is the way to be... very sad and angering, at the same time. I want the gov't involved as little as possible on every front of my life anyway, and when it comes to my children I feel that even more-so. And I agree - we must pray, vote and pray some more. Those who are loudest will always win.
