Has your husband looked on ABRA Autobody's website for job possibilities? My husband started working for them a year ago which is why we moved to CO. He said the painters at ABRA tend to make even more than the managers some months. Maybe he'll luck out and find an opening that isn't too far away. Would you be able to move if he found work farther away? It was very hard, but that was what we had to do because there was no work in our area of CA and it just cost way too much to stay there. We are feeling very blessed here in Colorado Springs because all the military bases keep the economy here going and the autobody shops very busy.

Hope he is able to find something through ABRA or another site and can get back to work soon! Your family will be in our prayers.

Thanks, we'll check that site out.

But no, we couldn't not move. We live next door to my parents and they have no one else, we simply can't move. IF they would go with us I would move in a heartbeat, but they won't. They are in their 70's and have many health problems. We're in a small town with few doctors so they often have to go to Athens to the doctor, and they don't drive to Athens alone anymore, so some one has to take them. My brother is working out of state right now, and does so off and on often, and all our other family lives at least 2 hours away, so there is no one else to help them....

We sell firewood for extra money and of course file taxes on the earnings. We get $175.00 for a cord of split Ponderosa Pine firewood. With the permit and fuel, our out of pocket, not counting, insurance, chains, etc. is $35.00 a cord. Very hard work but you can make some profit if all goes well.

I just read that they came to an agreement about the tax cuts, and it will include an extension of unemployment. Will that effect you?

SimplySonita, as I read your post, this is what came to mind: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him & He will direct your path (and your husband's)." FIGHT FEAR and don't give in to it!!! God's arm is not short...He is well able to meet your needs and place your husband in a job that's not only rewarding financially, but personally satisfying. I can speak from experience because I've had several times in my marriage that my husband has been unemployed. During this last stint we not only had all our needs met, but were even able to pay off our car and become debt free. So never mind what anyone says about "the economy," you are under THE ECONOMY OF GOD...of the household of the Almighty! Your needs will be met according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus! Believe it!!!

Prayers will go up...God's blessings will come down! Amen.
    ~Jean

    Maybe-
I posted a praise report the other day cause hubby started getting his checks again

This week's check didn't come...but today a letter came saying we hubby has 7 days from the date of the letter to go to the UE office. Well the dang letter was dated the 18th (meaning hubby has until the 25th to go to them) but the UE office was closed today (and tomorrow) so he CAN'T go to UE office until Monday (the 27th) so now I'm worried he won't get his UE anymore after all.....I'm going to try and not think about the next 2 days and just enjoy Christmas with my family then deal with this crap Monday.....

Don't worry about it. Take the letter WITH THE POSTMARK. They know full well the office was closed, and I've no doubt that will be taken into consideration.

I can relate. I am a single gramma raising my gs and I've been out of full-time work for over two years. I work at a local gas station part time just to pay some bills. Thankfully I have another source of some income, but definitely it does not pay all the bills. :(

There are many of us in your situation in this economy. Is there any possibility of moving in with your parents or purchasing a house together? Many people I know are doing this in lieu of moving. (I also live in a small, rural community).

I am organizing a "sharing community group" after the holidays. I have five families interested so far. We hope to barter many things, like work, goods, etc.
and also to have a common garden and hopefully expand to common animals for food. Maybe you could work on starting a group in your area? If your husband has wood to barter, that might be a good start!

I know, it still doesn't pay the electric bill or the mortgage, but it helps when you have a repair. :)

It's really hard when this happens right at Christmas. I am in danger of being laid off even from my part-time job right now, as the economy is still so slow. There will be many people hurting before the year is out.

God Bless you and your family and great big {{{{HUGS}}}} being sent your way!

I think you should be okay if your hubby goes on Monday. They must mean business days, and if the office is not open it cannot be counted as one of the days. Enjoy your holidays and Merry Christmas!

I have been taking an internet break for a bit so I am just seeing this now. I am so sorry for your financial hardships. I know firsthand how difficult it can be. I will pray for your family. I also agree you should try writing freelance...even if it is only a bit here and there you can do that while trying to find something substantial. You are a woman of faith who trusts in the Lord...He will NOT fail you. It may be hard to see and I understand that but it is in times like these that we have the privilege of seeing God move mountains and part seas. It's time to flex those muscles of faith. You may be in the dark but it will not encompass you...you will simply burn a candle and find your way as the Lord guides.

I only know you online but you are of those people I have been blessed to know online. It is women like you that make me get online to fill my cup so I pray yours will be filled.

ok so update-he went up there and got a couple of checks after this initial post-(hence the praise report thread) but NOW he's went 2 weeks without a check again! And got another letter saying he didn't qualify based on his income-What it sounds like to me happened is they had him fill out the wrong paperwork-so he's going back up there again tomorrow (Monday 1/3) to see, so here we are AGAIN sitting, waiting, worrying, wondering if we'll have any income or not...the stress is really getting to both of us.....

I am in complete sympathy. I am on my final level of unemployment, the state's emergency benefit. It stopped on December 4th, but the new bill that was signed will allow me to draw the monies remaining. I haven't had money since the 4th because the state didn't send me the weekly papers I have to fill out and mail in. They won't allow you to get them from the internet, only the ones mailed to you are valid. I got 4 at one time and just mailed them in yesterday. Hopefully they will clear and I will have some money soon. The food cupboard is almost bare and the freezer has enough meat for 3 meals. I am stocking up when it finally gets here!!!!! My FIL said we can have the deer quarter back that we gave him when DH got his deer on opening day. We were hoping he would fill the other tag as well, no luck though. I will say a prayer that your mess gets straightened out soon for a final time.
