Hi, I'm Amy. I've got two boys, 2 yrs 4 months and 20 weeks old. We don't do anything schooly of course...except my oldest and I do the abcmouse thing, but it's his "g-eme". Before my oldest was born (during pregnancy) I started really really thinking, or panicking rather, about my lack of knowledge on homeschooling. I started preparing by reading Texas laws and what nots. After I woke up and was satisfied with all I had taken in of the legalities, I started asking myself what kind of education I want to give them. I know going at it with the ideas of the public school way (all that I knew/know) would not suffice at all. I have a feeling more than an idea of where I want to take them and I'm content with that. But for the next few years I'm trying to get a head start and keeping my mind open and processing so that I may keep theirs open and processing. I've been a selfish visitor to the site for about a year and wondered if maybe I might actually fit in here. I've also often wondered how many of you are a fan of Charlotte Thomson Iserbyt? I have recently started reading "The Deliberate Dumbing Down Of America". Thanks for all the wonderful things you guys share.
Welcome! Of course you fit in here. Always a good idea to prepare yourself and get your support system all lined up. I'm glad you decided to jump into the conversations.
Welcome. I was a lurker for some time myself before I joined in. I think it is great that you know so far in advance that this is the path you want to take and are actively preparing.
welcome Amy! I'm just a few minutes west of you out in Aledo! Glad you joined us. You've got a good start on things, and it gets easier as you go. I've never heard of the author you mentioned. I'm googling her now.
I read about 170 pages of her book today, after seeing this post. Very interesting, and terribly sad and scary. As if we needed another reason to want to homeschool.... Welcome to the board!!! And thanks for that reference. I knew a little about it, but wow...
Thanks for the warmth ladies. Leissa, I grew up in not too far from Aledo, in Weatherford. And, Pecan, I'm glad you found it interesting. I think everyone should read it.
