Last night my ds (who will be in the 4th grade next year) found a paper ruler in the house which has the US Presidents printed on one side of it. I think the Army gave it to one of my older boys or something like that.

Anyway, he was really intrested in the Presidents so I thought this would be the perfect time to find some sort of workbook and do some homeschooling to do with the US Presidents. Any suggestions? What I would like is some sort of workbook geared toward about a 4th grade level that tells something about each of the Presidents and has some sort of worksheets or activities to do.

It does not have to be a workbook, I am open to any suggestions. I just want to strike while the iron is hot and he still has an intrest. Any suggestions appreciated.

My kids really like "The Complete Book of Presidents & States" put out by School Specialty Children's Publishing. It's for grades 4-6, and as the title says also includes info on the states. It also has sections about elections, government (branches of,amendments, bill of rights, constitution, making laws, etc.)

I believe I got ours at Barnes & Noble, but the publisher has a website at www.ChildrensSpecialty.com or more specifically, http://www.schoolspecialtypublishing.com/store/item.aspx?DepartmentId=82&ItemId=510

    Hope this helps!

Walmart has placemats for under $2, in fact long ago when we got them they were under $1. I don't know how much they are now.

They have the presidents on the front with some info. and some more info. on the back. When my boys were young I got those for them just for fun. They took those placemats and started learning the presidents, how many were assassinated, how many had more than one term in office, etc. I think they were around 6&7 for the younger, and 8&9 for the older. It was amazing what those two learned by quizzing each other. I quizzed them sometimes too, just for fun---they asked me to! Just things that started out with "Which president..." The older one memorized all teh presidents in order, and the younger one did quite a few!

That brings me to my story about the younger one: He was reciting the names in order. When he can to Rutherford B. Hayes, he said Ruth of ford, BEHAVE! :D

Anyway, that's a cheap and GREAT resource for presidents!

PSST this is not meant to be a highjack just an added question re us pres studies, sorry if it sounded like one.

    Thanks all

I am going to be looking for the place mats and also the work books. I hope I can find The Complete Book of Presidents & States, that sounds like a good workbook for my son.

    Thanks again

We just got a game called "Hail to the Chief" by Aristoplay and our whole family (dad included) loved it. It is about the election process and includes trivia questions about the presidents, states, ect. The suggested age is 10+ and there are different levels for questioning (kid easy, kid hard, adult easy, adult hard). We played the kid and adult easy questions and they were challenging...
    Have fun!
