well I don't know about all that I homeschool and we are far from rich..
I think the reason there are more girls, is because boys want to play sports. I dunno just my thought.

I must admit, I currently homeschool my daughter and not my sons. But next year, my sons will be homeschooled too.

Well, look how they are defining rich. 60% earn over 50K and that makes the group rich? I don't think so! Imagine living in the areas where homeschooling tends to be more popular..like cities and such, and affording to live on less than 50K. And only 60% earn more than that.

I think the boy/girl difference can be related to where parents are often more protective of their girls over boys. Plus, boys are more likely to have adhd and learning disabilites and other such things where a parent has a harder time with schooling them.

Wow!! I didn't know I was high income!! WOO HOO. Wait till I tell my husband. He's going to be so excited. If only I could find a way to stretch that money to make ends meet a bit easier. Is this how ALL high income people live?? Sorry for the sarcasim, I find that rediculous. I want to know where they got their information. Because most people that I know who homeschool have NO formal education and they are NOT wealthy. $50,000 is NOT high income.

Interesting article....I didn't realize that we were just over the line into high income either! weird... Where I'm at I don't think 50K a year is high. My brother-in-law went for a job interview yesterday and the job will probably pay $84-90K a year. Now that I consider high!
In my area in 1999 the median household income was $45,961.
Although, in my area currently there is a 15 1/2% unemployment rate. 50K probably seem really high to those who have no income or lower income.

Also, I'm sending my girl to school in the fall and keeping my boy home to homeschool. We're weird.

Wow 50k is in the high end. We are lucky if we make 23k a year. I think alot more girls are homeschooled because they are more likely to admit things like being picked on?

Well I definitely agree that the demographics are changing...but I do think they played fast and loose with the statistics to try to make it seem more so.

I am homeschooling boys...My girls went to ps.

I am homeschooling mostly because of dissatisfaction with the school...although I can see the social benifits of avoiding middle school. Which is one of the least "popular" reasons.

I do not think that 50K is high income...(and lets hope Obama doesn't either.)
But I have noticed that "high" income is lower than it has ever been. (during the election it was 250K, and NOW it is 150K)

My dh learned a few years ago that if you make more than $40,000 - you are in the top 4% of wealthy in America - according to the government. My question is: On what planet is that statistic correct? My dh and I make more than that, and yes, we are paying for two houses since we couldn't sell ours in MI, we struggle every month - even tho according to the gov't we should have MOUNDS of money! CRAZY!

Hmm. I wouldn't call that profound.

I blogged about it today...see http://www.kariapted.com if you're interested in reading.

Now that is interesting I started homeschooling my boys first and then of course my daughter followed lol. And as far as 50K a year being a high income. I wonder how much the writer of that article gets paid lol. I bet you 3 to 1 it is less than 50K lol. In our area with the unemployment reaching close to 12% a family making 50K a year would have a good income. But if I am correct the average income in our area was about 30K and now even less.

I was going to say there was more girls then boys in the United states but when I googled it I came up with, "Globally, there are about 105-107 boys born for every 100 girls"

    So thats not it :)

I knew a lot of female teachers who had boys as their favorite students and gave them more advantages over the girls. Maybe deep down a lot of us saw this in school too when we had gone to public and thought to ourselfs, "Hey they might do that to my girl child" not knowing their full potential? Not my child!

    Very interesting this thread.

It is still interesting that the stereotypes are becoming less prevalent.
