Do you do anything with your kids for Valentine's Day? I remember getting Valentine's from all my classmates and it was fun. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you.
I'm having a party at my house for my homeschool group. They'll all bring valentines and a bag of something (candy, pencils, whatever). I'll provide white lunch sacks to decorate with markers, stickers, etc., and then line them all up by the door to be filled with what everyone brought. They can pick up the bags as they leave. In the mean time, we'll also be decorating sugar cookies with icing, sprinkles, etc., and of course, there will be plenty of time to play with toys. I always enjoyed getting Valentines from classmates, too, so this will be similar. We used to make valentine boxes out of shoe boxes, but boxes are hard to come by when you homeschool. They're used for a million other things. Sacks will do just fine!
Well we do the Valentines Card exchanges with other homeschooled kids via a Yahoo group. And we do swaps when we can. I admit to being a bit crazy this year we did two card swaps. LOL..note the crazed tone. Last year we did one but each child had their own list of 20 names. This year they flipped it so we got lists for families. So even though there was 20 names per list there was anywhere from one to five kids per family. Uh I am really tired of making Valentines I think next time we will buy those little cards for simplicities sake. Anyway we make mailboxes and decorate them for Valentines to put all the cards in and they get to open them on Valentines. I also am going to surprise them with a school party. I am going to decorate the class the night before and make treats up for them. That way they have their own special day. I do all this because it allows them to see other kids are homeschooled around the world. It allows them to understand they aren't alone and it's fun
Our homeschool group is doing a party with about 40 kids total plus parents. We'll decorate a box, bring valentines to pass out, play some games, and have a pot luck luncheon. Decorating your class room sounds like a fun idea too. We always have a special dinner as a family and each get a little something. Plus he will probably exchange valentines with a few neighbor kids and cousins.
We are going to a skate party with our home school group. We will be eating , doing a Valentine's exchange & skating.
Our homeschool group has a valentine's party tomorrow. We bring something to collect valentines in and bring some valentines to give. We will have pizza and the kids will all get to hang out/play. Monday I'm planning a dinner for my family. I'm using the menu from econobusters.com I'll decorate the table and pull out the glass dishes (no paper plates tonight). Hubby won't know anything about it so it will be a surprise for him when he walks in the door from work. I'm purchasing gifts for the kids. Nothing huge, just a little stuffed animal and a candy bar for the girls and a gift certificate for the movies or bowling for the boys.
These all sound like a lot of fun. We are not linked up with a homeschool group; I will have to work on that for next year. I think we will decorate the room and bake valentine's treats. Thank you for the help and the suggestions.
A friend of mine hosts a V-Day party for families she knows through various means. Some are other homeschoolers, some have younger kids (so too young for school), others just get more cards than they did at school. Also, our church does a card exchange (it was supposed to be tonight, but postponed because of weather).
I think we will be attending a moms club craft activity. For us, Valentine's Day is hubby's birthday. So, we have a family birthday party instead of celebrating Valentine's Day.
We're going to help teh kids make cards for their parents, and their going to make their own goodie bags and decorate them. Then at the end of the day they get candy and cards in their bags to take home. Not too frenzied since I'm the only adult in the house with 5 kids that day! WHHHAAAA!
