I am spending a bit more on supplements and "extras" for next year. I find we are too often falling into quite the rut. I get sick of seeing the same curriculum done the same way (and I know they are), so I'm going to shake it up a bit. I have already bought 2 separate "tracks" of curriculum for language arts. I'll do 3 -4 weeks of one and then 6-7 weeks of the other. I will be varying science quite a bit too. Maybe doing 6-8 weeks of one science and then another of rather different approach. The kiddos thought this was a great idea. I guess we'll see. You'll probably see another thread in the fall that says --I MADE A HUGE MISTAKE!
Does anyone else become bored with particular subjects or curriculum?--please don't let it be just me!

Absolutely! We've always mixed and matched to a certain extent. Next year will be year 4 in our hs journey, and we are officially going without any set curriculum. We've discussed the approaches we'd like to take and some basic materials for getting there, but otherwise we're winging it. Except, for the one day a week co-op we do with another family - that is already planned but subject to tweaking as necessary.

I think switching between two curricula makes perfect sense. The different approaches will allow deeper understanding, and it probably will provide more opportunity to skip any boring or repetitive aspects your kids don't need.

    Have fun!

We mix it up too. Sometimes we take a day to do something completey different - recently we spent a day learning about mangroves, and going to a local mangrove to study it, we ditched all our regular work for the day. make a refreshing change. Sometime soon we will have a chemisrty day, where we do lots of chemistry experiments.

I was just talking to my friend about this the other day. I think about how I started hsing back in Dec, the schedule we had, how we did things. I was constantly changing things up. Not so much the curriculum, but the way we did it.
I think it's normal to get bored if you keep doing things the same way. That's the joy of hsing! You can change it whenever you want and your child is always excited about learning!

We never get bored. . .well let me rephrase that. We love our curriculum so we don't do a lot of other stuff per se. But when we get bored--especially in the winter--we do other things to supplement like go on field trips, or do extra art or something like that. In any case, I find that following my gut is almost always the right answer.

We do plenty of field trips and that sort of thing. I was referring to the repetitive approach of any given curriculum. We are finishin our 3rd year and I am just trying to keep it fresh for all of us. Maybe I'll find that "magic" curriculum one day--LOL!
