I was just wondering what/if you do lessons leading up to Veteran's Day. We have a new Memorial going up that I would love to take mine to, but I would like to give a little background info to. If you have any ideas or links that would be great!!! THANKS!!!
I use this site often and so I looked there and found this: http://www.teach-nology.com/teachers/lesson_plans/holidays/vet/ I also found this page on Wikipedia on mountments and memorials in the U.S: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Monuments_and_memorials_in_the_United_States We will probably do stuff on Vietnam because both grandfathers did 4 tours each there. Plus we might do a little write up on Iraq because my cousins and a very good friend have done 2 tours each there. We might watch a war movie , I don't know yet. In our old town we would help place flags in the cemetry but out here they already have enough help.
Thanks for the links I'll check them out tonite. I thought we do a small history lesson behind it, I found a word search, talk about how Grandpa's served in different wars. We have talked about soldiers before & they know when they hear the National Anthem to stop & place your hand over your heart. I did find a "soldier" type paper figure that they can color & cut out to put together. I was also thinking about talking about the "poppy". I guess we'll build a little for that.
Veterans Day lapbooks and other printables There's a free Veterans Day lapbook at CurrClick. Another free one is here. Here are two that people have made: LaPaz More Lapbooks Live & Learn Press has one for sale. Here are some other printables: About.com DLTK Teacher Planet
Thanks... we did a poppy today. I found a book online that I based one that I made off of. We will be doing that tomorrow. I think the lil ones will like it because it a have people in most of the branches, so I included pix of fam!!! I think we are going to go down to a memorial dedication & the bells will ring at 11 am!!! Should be neat I hope for them.
