The number of home-schooled children in South Hampton Roads rose 7 percent last fall to nearly 2,500, powered by a 40 percent increase in Suffolk, state records show.
The number of children registered as being home-schooled in Suffolk jumped from 210 in 2002-03 to 295 in 2003-04, pushing Suffolk’s totals ahead of Norfolk’s and Portsmouth’s.
