It's not so involved as notebooks. It's more 1 day project syle. They're just file folders that your re-fold (or not) to open double door style. Inside is all the info. regarding what you are studying in a colorful, creative as you want, hands-on format. You can have accordian-fold full out with info. on the line folds...just anything. It's fun to see how creative the kids can get. I have only used it as a supplement and fun project for things we have already thoroughly covered, but you could make one as you are studying something.

ok I remember Deena explaining this to me before now.. it seems I have lost a lot of short term memory since January, probably because of the pain meds they had me taking, that now that I am off I am like what is that thing I was gonna do? and where am I going? lol, glad to be off them and on normal tylenol stuff! Lol
SO its like a project brochure then.. it looks cool, I may have kids do that once we are once again CAUGHT up and headed in the right direction for SUMMER !
OH ! Maybe they can make them from the day trip to check out resorts and camping, they coudl each gather info from one of the locations and make a sales pitch for one for me! THat could be fun!

dd is 11, and she loved it.
ds is 10, and he didn't do it that time, but they have both made one for our trip away recently - it is covered in postcards, and contains a journal and reports on things we did - like reports on animals from visitng the zoo, and a response to an artwork from the art gallery....you get the idea. They both like the format.
dd is doing another one at the moment for her literature studies - she says she is going to do them "for everything"
ds is not as crafty, but he liked it too, and has plans for another on a future literature unit also.
I think we could really get into this!!

We made our first lapbooks yesterday and had so much fun. I wanted to do something easy for the first one so we did the Ten Commandments. We had some old wallpaper books so we cut out some great paper for our flaps and pockets. Both of the girls made one and they are so cool. I wish I could show you but I would have to get Katie to help me. I will ask her. I can see us doing these again soon. Thanks for all the great inspiration ladies. Beth

Beth, that gave me a great idea! I have been wanting to do a lapbook and now I know what I will do with it. I have been wanting to cover (or re-cover) the "Fruits of the Spirit". That would make a really fun lapbook!

    Thanks!

When I was investigating the whole "lapbook" idea, I read somewhere that they are called lapbooks because you just can sit on the couch with your kids open it up wide and it covers your laps. ---I think she, the author, wanted to give it a warm cozy sound for a learning time.
Sorry, I can't remember the site where I found it..I just "googled" it and went from there.

Leslie, We are going to do the Fruits of the Spirit too. I almost picked that for our first one. I am picking things the girls know real well so it will be easy for them while they get the hang of the lapbook idea. We bought some cute tags and letter stickers that were on sale in the scrapbook section at Walmart and they are going to go back and put the numbers one through ten on the pockets, flaps and doors of their ten commandments. If you can get any old wallpaper books they have great scraps of paper to use in the lapbooks. We even found one page with lots of African animals on it. I can't wait to use those. I wish we could all get together and make lapbooks one day. That would be so cool. Have fun with yours. Beth

now that I hve a new camera and am learning how to load the pics to the computer it has ap rogram that came with it that helps you to send email so maybe I can figure how to do it from here too.
I am excited about my day trip now because I really want to have them make one up! I told dd and she looked at me like "Oh boy more work" untill I told her that these little projects were going to help us decide which place we would stay and so they were like little sales people... marketing thier product! She kinda liked the power trip... I think she is definately a teen now! hehee
