We took our 7th and 9th graders to New York and saw Ground zero and did an 8 hr tour around the city, with a 90 min ferry trip around Liberty island, and the Hudson. Plus, we also saw the Lion King musical, which was AMAZING!!! We saw Grant's tomb and many other historical and fun attractions. FAO Schwartz is the best toy store ever, in my opinion. It is HUGE and they have everything you can possibly imagine. My boys were in 7th Heaven. Next, we took a train from New York to Washington DC. We took a 7 day tour with a fabulous company. By the end of the 7th day, we had gone to many historical sights around D.C, then on to York Town, Jamestown, Williamsburg, Shenandoah national park, Mt. Vernon, Arlington national cemetery, Monticello, Gettysburg, Lancaster Amish community, and Philadelphia. We had personal tours of many places, plus local guides hopped on our bus and took us around 3 towns (in addition to our week long tour guide). We learned about the first settlers, revolutionary war, civil war, war of 1812, battle of Gettysburg, Powhatan Indians, Algonquin Indians, slavery, the Underground Railroad, numerous presidents, Benjamin Franklin, the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and SOOOO much more! In the end, we had been to the states of New York, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and also D.C. We were gone 13 days, and had a wonderful time. We bought a bunch of souvenirs and I picked up 12 books to use for history this coming school year, as we don't use a set history curriculum.
That sounds amazing! So glad you got to see the Lion King! We enjoyed that so much. Love the puppeteering and special effects...so unexpected! (we saw it at the Oriental theater in Chicago) Been a while since I was back East, but Elle went on a school trip to NYC between her sophomore and junior year and just loved it. I've always wanted to go to Virginia to look at Civil War stuff...that would be so incredible. So glad you had such a wonderful experience! I'm jealous!
The quote CrazyMom "That sounds amazing!" I was going to say that and saw she beat me to it. And honestly the trip sounds "amazing". We live on the West Coast so it is almost inconceivable to imagine all that history in one area.
