We learned about the Sabbath for school this week. The curriculum suggested making Challah as part of the lesson. I have never made yeast bread before without a bread machine and I was a little afraid of it. I looked online to see if I could find an easy recipe and I found one that was called "no knead Challah". We made the dough yesterday afternoon and put it in the fridge so we could make it for breakfast this morning. Other than the braiding (we need more practice), it turned out pretty good. I still have half the dough to make another loaf (by myself) tonight. Can't wait to let DH taste it.
Good timing. Someone somewhere decided today was national bread day. Great job! Does your house smell heavenly?
We made it a couple weeks ago, too! I put the recipe up on my blog! We cheated on the braiding! LOL It LOOKED like a good braid, but it was a big fake out!!!
Amie, I think I'll use that as the reason we waited until today (it was actually in our lesson plans for Friday) to make it. Not that we're a little behind schedule or anything. Yes, it smelled wonderful! DD8 said, we should start making our own bread all the time. I'd go for that, except I'd change the "we" to "I". I love cooking with my kids, but it goes so much faster when I can just do it myself.
I saw yours on your blog. It looked great! The recipe you used is a little different from ours. I think I may have to give it a try too.
