Does anyone know that? They use that at my daughter's school. I really liked it and thought that now that she's homeschooled I could get a private subscription. But they only come in sets of 25. :(

Does anyone know of a comparable news magazine for kids?
It's just a few pages. It always covers what's currently on the news. Usually a couple longer articles and a few short ones. The last page has questions they can answer as a review. I think it's really great.

Do you want it to be from a christian world view? I got t a thing called God's world News. It is bible based, for prek-9th grade, it comes as 7 issues per year, they are like magazines rather than newspapers, have a triple page poster, can be used as a history/gov curriculum addition, scope and sequence is standard for the age, uses current events to educate, develop biblical discernment, and encourage christian character. 4 full unit studies per issue, spring from current events using math, language, science, history and more

i havent ordered ours yet, but it looks good to me, colorful, fun, with activities throughout (puzzles of diff kinds and such)plus the unit studies and the Godly perspective have me won. It also says it is curric. friendly in many subject areas, vocab, reading writing, geography, science history and bible.

    the web site is GWNews.com
i think the price is better if you can get someone to go in together with you, but for 1 subscription, it is $22. It says they recomend starting at the begininning of the school year, and it says 7 monthly issue, plus one e-issue. So im assuming it would be ok for the school year.

Do you have a homeschool group or co op you go to? If so maybe you could get other families to go in on it with you. Just a thought.

I just went to there site. It is a subscription for that amount per year. Now that low price of 4.99 or so is only if you buy x amount of subscriptions. Now if you just buy one it is like 25 per year. Hope that helps.

Star Bug, you can too get a single subscription! It's 24.95, plus 8% shipping. I get the third grade edition.

Oh thank you so much for all the replies.
I think I'll either get the subsciption for that or for National Geographic Kids. That one is only $15 and we would get a free world ball.
But what I like about the weekly reader is that it has the current stuff in it, things that are on the news.

Does anyone know both magazines? What are the big differences?
I don't think we can afford both right now.

Time for kids is going to be much more like weekly reader.

We get nat. geo. kids and I make lots of work from it. There is some current events and things, but not really things that you see on the news usually.

What about an online news for kids...I have been looking but not finding what I am needing.
I don't dare let him on cnn or foxnews or any of them.
    We don't have a decent local paper...So I can't even use that.
I would like to do a daily thing...and he has no clue on what is going on in the world, but so much of it is trampy on the tv...I don't care about the celebrities...

That is an excellent idea! I think I'll wait with the magazine subsciption. Maybe we'll find an online source.
Maybe you should make a seperate post to get more replies.

Many of the local papers have a kids supplement available to teachers to help bring the news to the children..you could ask if your local paper has this.

If your newspaper has a NIE representative, they might be able to provide you with materials, too.

    Hey there,
Just wanted to second that you can get it in smaller amounts. Just not at the $5 price.
Best of luck in choosing something!

We receive Kids Discover magazine and I just ordered National Geographic Kids (we used to get it but stopped for several years...trying it again for the younger ones to enjoy this time).

We started Kids Discover when my oldest was in 2nd or 3rd grade at their Dept of Defense school. We liked it so we continue to subscribe.
