This afternoon, I attended the memorial of the special little guy that inspired me to join the national bone marrow registry, Trevor Kott. Trevor was gifted to the world for just 6 1/2 months and touched more lives with his story and his fight against leukemia in his short little life than most of us do in an entire lifetime. His parents got his story out to the media and it spread all over the area- even across the states and nationally. Locally, in the Sacramento area, over 5,000 people came out to get swabbed and added to the registry- just incredible. So many other possible matches for others suffering from the same disease.

The memorial was beautiful- but very hard to get thru. So many people shared their interactions with Trevor or his family with us, there was a wonderful video a neighbor had compiled of both motion pictures and still shots from when Trevor was born, right up until his last days. Many relatives, nurses, the family OB/Gyn, friends, neighbors and even the parents spoke and said so many great things. You could truly see and feel the love of God in the building.

For some reason, though I knew him only thru pictures and his Mom and Dad's blogs, this little boy touched me and my life very deeply. Seeing his little 3 foot casket up on the stage was really hard for me. I think the reason it touched me so much is because I have kids. I can't even imagine having to go thru a battle of this sort (or any sort) with them. Trevor's parents have been so strong- it is really amazing.

May God continue to heal the Kott family- may they continue to find their hope in Him and cherish and remember every dear moment they shared with little Trevor.

Soar with the angels Trevor and thanks for all you've taught me.

    Tara :)

PS) I can't post URLs yet, but if anyone would like to view the Kott website, blog or family photo slideshow, just let me know and I'll send you the link!

How sad. They will be in my prayers! Apparently if you register with the bone marrow registry they are pretty good at tracking you down. My friend and I signed up in college when they had a big event for a little girl in the next town. I guess I had put my parents' number on the form, because about 8 years later, my mom got a call that I might be a match. She gave them my number but told them that I had just had a baby and was also scheduled for some surgery, and I never got a call, so I guess that made me ineligible. I hope that person got the help they needed!

Its very sad to go through that. For some unknown reason we have a high rate of leukima here (my son got it right after we moved here). There was a few of them that got it a second time needing a bone marrow transplant, and died (I know of 2 personally) But one was in the media a lot because he was hispanic/white and that made him a rare person on the bonemarrow doner list, he died and after about a month they found an exact match from the people that came to line up for testing when they had a bone marrow drive like you described for treavor.
