We have enjoyed this book so much. We did 5K this year. I'm now wondering what we will use for 1st grade. There are so many choices I'm very overwhelmed. Those that used this book what did you use after it.

We only did half the book and then just jumped straight to the Scholastic easy readers.. and Sami reads for a full hour each day. I know they say NOT to do that but Sami LOVED the book till lesson 45 and then shut down and announced she never wanted to read again. Getting to lesson 50 was like murder! The only thing she liked were those 8 page phonics readers so we are on those till the fall at least. She reads them over and over till I can't STAND to hear the same stories anymore. But since she is happy with reading again I'm not complaining.

I'll be looking for something to continue with in the fall too. I don't think half of teach your child is enough reading lessons forever. LOL We might try finishing the book then only if she isn't still so resistant. So I'm anxious to hear more reccomendations for following the book.

we worked on that books 'til lesson #75 and long voewls were overwhelming for my dd to get. So, we start reading DICK and JANE books (they are very old books) in great condition,we check out all the 12 series of the books and finished them in few month, almost.
My dd loved it, they are very pure stories.she loved all the characters in them

    so I would recommend them

    good luck

There's several good series for beginning readers. One that I especially like is called "Real Kid Readers". The stories are cute and in rhyme, the pictures are real people. There's also "I Can" and "I Can Read" books. "Henry and Mudge" are easy books, but there are also some really easy "Henry and Mudge" books, designed for very early readers.

I also use Spectrum's reading workbook. Phillip is almost finished with the first grade book!

You might also consider some HM basal readers. I know basal readers...snore...but...they are good for reading practice and comprehension. A bunch of different stories, on the same level, all in one book.
