I started a bookclub in my area, but handed it off to some more capable girls. I miss that connection (but the books they started picking were wacko) but i've missed discussing books! So, what are you reading? I just started Water For Elephants and it's really good so far
Well since I am in Grad School I only have time for my textbooks, so right now I am reading "Business Law The Ethical, Global and E-Commerce. It is interesting but I would love to read something more light weight.
Lets see I read no more diapers for ernie today. I'm probably going to ready something stuck on the shelf for my vacation though. Probably a bradbury book we've got several I've not read yet.
I recently finished William Makepeace Thackeray's "Vanity Fair" and Harriet Beecher Stowe's "Uncle Tom's Cabin". I am currently reading Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" and Thomas A. Kempis' "Imitation of Christ".
You probably don't want to know what I've been reading recently: 'Predictably Irrational' (an interesting book that's mostly for those in business) and 'University Physics' (sadly, I still read physics texts for fun!?) When it comes to fiction, my favorite remains 'The Mayor of Casterbridge' by Thomas Hardy. When we home-schooled our older daughter, we made it a set book to read. It's such a great story, and it brings rural England from that era to life.
I enjoy a bit lighter reading than some I guess....i'm reading book 4 in the Harry Potter series (Goblet of Fire)...I'm trying to get them all read before the movie comes out in July. I know I'm a grown woman, but I just love them!
I am reading Little House in the Big Woods with Grace. Alone I am reading The Scarlet Letter. I read it once in high school but didn't pay much attention and skipped a lot of it.
Well since we are on "vacation" from school the last 2 weeks I have read just about a book a day! They are all Teen Reads. They only one that has like one paragraph about s*x is The Vampire Diaries . Here is what I read, so far City of Bones, City of Ashes and City of Glass ( The Mortal Instruments Trilogy) by Cassandra Clare . They are Teen reads but I just loved them!!! About Fairies , Vampires, werewolves and other mystic creatures. Very clean book, only occasional kiss in it. The Night World ( All 3 books) by L.J. Smith. She also wrote The Secret Circle and The Vampire Diaries ( I also recommend those books and Vampire Diaries will be a new series on the CW channel!!!). They are about Vampires, werewolves and humans. They each fall in love with someone they are not suppose to ( like vampire and human) and then they form a new community called Daylighters so that they can live in peace and love with others like them. The Summoning and The Awakening by Kelley Armstrong. Again Vampires, werewolves and people that can communicate with ghost/spirits. The teens don't know what they are until they escape a group home that was really a hospital that controls their powers so that they never manifest. Really good reads, can't wait until the 3rd one comes out!! Right now I am reading : Uglies by Scott Westerfeld ( there are Pretties and Specials also, books #2 & #3). Its about how everyone turns pretty when they are 16, but some "uglies" think that is wrong that being pretty isn't all its cracked up to be. So far it is a really good book.
ahaha...monkeymamma!! me too! I just skimmed through it and found what i needed to to answer the outline questions.l..so how is it????MaryJane and I are getting ready to begin reading black beauty...she can hardly wait cute kid
Yes I only read what I needed and nothing more! So far it is really good but I am reading it slowly so I'm almost haf way through it. I am hoping to get some time this afternoon to sit and read.
oh that's cool...i bought the people magazine that she had an interview in...she seems actually really normal and down to earth...now ;-)
I'm reading MAX by James Patterson. I have read the other Maximium Ride book and was thrilled to get my hands on this one yesterday for only $1. These are always a quick read for me so I'll probably have it finished by tomorrow.
timkelmom- I read the first Maximum ride book last year. I definitely couldn't read them back to back- just different. Kris- I just checked out Melissa Gilbert's book Prairie Tale this weekend. I haven't had the chance to read it yet. Over the last couple of months I have read a book on Anne Boleyn, two of Queen Elizabeth, one of Mary, Queen of Scots, one on Abigail Adams, and one of Mary Todd Lincoln. I bought a shoebox full of Christian paperback romances at the library for 10cents each- I grab those when I need some lighter reading and enjoy those. DS #1 is going to be in a Lit class this fall and reading Frankenstein and The Crucible- neither of which have I read yet and plan to read before he does! Crystal- I haven't jumped in to the vampire stories yet. And to the OP- Water for Elephants is on my to-read list. Thanks! MT3
I should read "Predictably Irrational" since I am looking into starting my own business with in the next year in a half. Shari
Currently reading The Skystone by Jack Whyte. it's the first book in the Camulod Chronicles. I've already read the first few books, but it was a while ago. this time I plan to get through the whole series. It's a King Arthur story, but it starts before King Arthur & is more realistic than some. I recently finished reading Rising Sun by Michael Chrichton, Breaking Dawn (last book in the Twilight series), and War of the Worlds.
