It seems to be another double post day. In "school" we are reading... Homers "Odyssey" and A Wrinkle in Time and Lord of the Flies
I actually think I have that book or a similar one left form college days. Behavioral Stats, what a class! I'm reading pure fluff, Fatal Harvest. I'm also reading Girl Talk, God Talk-a book about prayer.
I've been enjoying a book by Francine Rivers, Sons of Encouragement. A real page turner of , "five men who quietly changed eternity"... Face to Face by Kenneth Boa great little book to reflect on scriptures and pray with. And The Confessions os St. Augustine. soo good !!
For school- I am reading "The Lightning Thief" by Rick Riordan. I am reading "Girl with a Pearl Earring" by Tracy Chevalier and "The History of the Middle East" by Peter Marrfield
I read this series too! So much fun. Right now I am making my way through the Cat Who series. I am on The Cat Who Went into the Closet. I am also trying to keep up with my Bible reading and a book that walks you through Revelation verse by verse (very good and very deep, this is my fourth time through).
I love the Stephanie Plum series! I just finished a book last night called Still Alice about a woman diagnosed at the age of 50 with Alzheimers. It is fiction but very well researched and written from the patient's perspective and not the caregiver. I'm slowly working through Raising Your Spirited Child - found that one from someone on here! Jackie - which of the Rhys Bowen are you reading? I love the Molly Murphy series but haven't tried the others.
The others are lighter than Molly Murphey. I've read the first two Evans books; they remind of Hamish MacBeth (which I've not read, but have seen on DVD from the library). Her Majesty's Spyness and A Royal Pain are quite funny! Very light and tongue-in-cheek. I've read the first two Molly books.
A little late on this, but I am reading/studying the book "Ancient-Future Worship" by Robert E Webber. Myself, along with the other 3 people in our worship arts committe at chuch, and our pastor are reading it together. So far, it's really enlightening.
My reading has to do with the upcoming season. "Living With Chickens" & "Herding Dog Trainer" We plan on adding chickens to the homestead this spring and I have no idea what I am doing. Plus I promised my husband I would train him a cattle dog to help out this spring.
Jen, does Daniel ever break it off with his fiance? I got "In Like Flynn" now, where the two of them get together in the end, and then he walks off with the fiance. Or does Molly spend the whole series acting like an idiot? Just curious!
Okay we have some new books to add to the thread! In school we are reading "The Master Puppeteer" by Katherine Paterson. My dd is reading "Detectives in Togas" and my ds is reading "The Wanderings of Odyessus (sp?lol)" For pleasure I am reading "Suite Francaise" by Irene Nemirovsky. It's a historical fiction book about the German occupation of France. So far it's very good.
If I remember right, the last one I read they (Molly and Daniel) are on civil terms but I can't remember if he is still with his fiance. I really like the series but I have several authors that I like much better and got sidetracked. I just finished Sister's Choice by Emilie Richards. She has an awesome series - Shenandoah Quilt series. The setting is in the Shenandoah mts and each book centers around a quilt. They are not religious per se but one of the books is about a new pastor in the area.
In school we are reading "Island of the Blue Dolphins". I am reading "Special Diets for Special Kids" which has been very informative and helpful.
My dd read "Island of the Blue Dolphins" and really enjoyed it. She read it on her own...I never got a chance to read it. She was also thrilled to find "Little Women" (her favorite book) and "A little Princess" at the secondhand store for $1.00. lol.
We are currently reading Lloyd Alexander's The Cat Who Wished to Be a Man. It is one of my really favorite stories, a VERY easy read, but really cute. I am reading them Friend Within The Gates by Elizabeth Grey, about the life of Edith Cavell, a British nurse in Belgium during WW1. She was executed by the Germans for helping British and French soldiers escape. (We're studying WW1 right now!)
The book I am reading is about WW1 also. However, I teaching ancient history this year. I did get a bio on Alexander the Great for myself...but I have not started it. I will have to look into "The Cat Who Wished to be a Man", I have heard of it before but never read it. (geesh, there I go being lazy and putting books in quotations..LOL...my dd saw me typing and tired to correct me.)
