I know this is last minute but what do you think about my idea for my children's sermon for tomorrow? I always give them a treat at the end of our time but tomorrow I am going to tell them that I have been so busy getting ready for Christmas that I forgot to buy anything to pass out to them and that I only have one treat. I will have a basket with folded papers in it and I will have them each take one. I will tell them then that they are drawing for the one treat and that whoever has a star on their paper gets the treat. Then I will have them all look and of course they will all have a star. I will say raise your hand if you had a star. Then after the excitement I expect that to cause, I will say that of course they are all getting a treat. I could never leave any of them out. In the same way they all are going to get a treat today, the Christ Child came to earth for everyone, not just a chosen few or the lucky ones and that he was the greatest gift the world ever received. Then we have our prayer time and they get to get their treat. Be honest, what do you think?
I have to tell you what happened during the children's sermon. I had one of the mothers ready to pass out the slips of paper with stars on them and I had just started talking when one of the 4th grade boys interrupted me and said could he see the microphone for a minute. I was so shocked I just froze for a second so he said it again. I looked down at it to see if something was wrong with the mic and he was wanting to fix it but finally I handed it to him. He stood up and pulled a gold box out from under his shirt and said that the children felt like I always gave stuff to them so today they wanted to give me a gift. I took the box and asked him if he wanted me to open it now. He nodded so I took the top off the box and there was a silver bracelet that has children charms and says Jesus loves the little children on it in three places. I got all choked up and had to get the helper mom to read what it said to everyone. I am seldom speechless so this really tickled the kids. I am so honored that they did this for me. I love those kids! By the way, every one loved the children's sermon and Prairie Home's touch made it perfect. Beth
Beth, that is so sweet! When I was younger I taught the pre-school age kids in Sunday School and really enjoyed it. This gift shows what an impact you have made on these kids!
Oh how sweet! That says so much about the kind of person you are and the gift that God has given you to teach those kids! Good job!!!
What a blessing! I got choked up just reading about it, I can only imagine what you felt like being there and having that presented to you! Bless you for your work with the children, you are obviously loved and appreciated!
Beth, how wonderful!!! what a wonderful gift you received and that you are giving to the children. You are so blessed and they are SO blessed to have you in their life.
Beth, that just touch my heart and brought lots of tears to my eyes. I knew you were special and this just proves it.
I thought of you during our church program & wondered how the "giving & receiving" message went--'sounds like it was given & received both ways! If these are very young children, then their parents must have also been involved in that unique gift, which means you are appreciated by them, also. Experiences like that go a long way in keeping you keeping on. Thanks for sharing!
Please forgive me if this sounds like bragging but I was sort of proud when it happened. Today a lady from a church near here called and asked me about my children's sermon from last weekend. The one about the one treat and the papers with stars. Anyway she said she had heard about it from someone who was at our church and could she please use it at their church on Christmas Eve. I was surprised but told her of course she could use it. She even asked me to tell it to her in my words so she could get it all just right. She said the lady who had told her about it just loved it. I am so glad someone liked it enough to share it. I just had to tell someone. Thanks for listening. Beth
