Seriously, you have to do some of these projects for yourself, BEFORE you have your children attempt them.

We were attempting to do yarn paintings similiar to what the Huichol Indians of Central Mexico, supposedly direct decendents of the Aztecs.

Do you have any idea how freaking HARD this project is? We should have just used paint. Now instead of a really cool looking lesson, we have had a lesson on how many swear words can come out of mom's mouth...

Not my best HS moment ;)

I feel your pain. And the "puppet" we tried to make for our Pinocchio literary unit ALSO felt my pain.

    I hate doing crafts. LOL

Yep. We made the outline first and then attempted to glue yarn into the picture. First we had to redraw everything, because we didn't make it big enough. Then, the yarn stuck more to our hands then to the paper. So NOTHING was sticking on the paper. So we attempted to us the scissors to hold the yarn down.... NO ONE has that many fingers and hands... seriosly.

okay, In the future, glue goes on the lines you drew, then carefully SET the yarn on the glue and do not move it if it goes wrong untill the rest of it dries!

    That will help.
I have actually done this before. We didnt paint after though but I like that idea! We just used painted yarn.. which works too but its messier.

See but the yarn was supposed to be the paint and fill in the whole picture. So you put in one line and try to do the next, right next to the first, and it all sticks to your hands... LOL We made a second attempt at it today. Not beautiful, but we did it and with much more laughing rather than many not so nice words ;)

I can remember making a yarn picture (very basic) when I was a kid, it was very frustrating, glue and yarn everywhere. Remind me not to try that one with my kids, at least for a long time, I am still shuddering from the paper mache pinata we made from scratch in June, LOL.
