I think the variety of answers shows the great diversity of this group. I just wish no state had unecessary rules that limit people in what they feel they could/should do for their children. But, it seems that the rules that are in place are not limiting too much. In my home state, Texas, I don't have to worry about it at all. I just wish the world would realize that people learn in different way, that not all people need ________ (fill the blank), and that one size does not fit all.

I like the fact that I can unschool. My state requires that I have 1000 hours of schooling withing the school year. 600 hours in the core subjects, and that 400 of those are done at the address of the home schooling site. So the only thing I struggle over is how I log those hours in case the state comes knocking.

Other than that I have seen my DS grow this year. Emotionally, intellectually and in his confidence within himself. At this point I feel that I mainly have had to focus on undoing the damage the PS system did. We are finally able to concentrate on his schooling.

So the only thing that I would change would be to broaden what I am doing with him now. No restrictions, unlimited money and hope. The sky's the limit!

I was telling ds that he is getting unschooled for the next two weeks, Ihave my lists of his daily needs but he is mostly doing what he chooses when he chooses it, when I say its school work time that is.
We are so busy with play practices after school hours and program practices during school hours.. its pretty crazy!
We are enjoying it so far, but he knows in two weeks time he has to be to a certain spot, and that in January we will be on what our so called " normal" schedule is.
I am glad I live in a state that allows me to do what I want if I just keep track of the days, I am maybe supposed to do 3 hours a day for so many days... but one site said yes the other said no, lol. If they are that confused maybe I can just relax! ha
