I am also in Texas. I have a pamphlet put out by THSC. It is called What is Good Citizenship? The Leeper VS Arlington ISD judge defined good citizenship as a CIVICS course or a study of government. The pamphlet lists ways to get involved and teach at the same time - voter registration(I know several people who make sure and take an older child with them when they vote), political party participation, primary process, convention process, campaign process, legislative process.
My children are still young(4,6,9,11) so mainly we focus on being a good citizen in our home and community. We also have them pay attention to what the President says and what he has to do to keep his "promises". The war in Iraq and the upcoming election are interesting things to talk about. What the candidates and parties stand for and how they differ from what we believe.
I don't remember where I got the pamphlet(probably at a convention), but you might find it on their website.
    Hope that helps, Sabrina

    Yes......

Kristy....Sabrina is absolutely correct! The Texas statute does not define *good citizenship*. So your right in that it can bascially be anything. Especially for our little folks.

THSC puts out a book that you get when you join or enroll. If you buy it separaretly I think its something like 18.00. However, it answers all of these type questions.

It has copies of actual letters that Tim Lambert, president of the THSC received from various organizations regarding our being recognized as a viable group.

It has what to do about withdrawing from school, driver's ed, college and curriculum are to just name a few. He receives letters from the chairmans and presidents of each of these schools or state organizations so that you can refer to them and show other people.

Its a wonderful resource if you can get it. YOu can buy it directly from them or at curriculum fair. Their website is www.thsc.org.
