I have a HP 2100 All In One printer. I bought it at Cosco a few years ago, and until I started homeschooling, I liked the printer. Now that I print a lot more, I noticed is uses SO MUCH ink. I think too much. I am putting new black and color cartridges in about ever 4 to 6 weeks. So, I'm looking for a more efficient printer. Any suggestions?

We have two printers a bw laser (Cannon D530) printer and then my HP Color c5280 (all in one, I love it). We find it to be much more economical doing it this way. I do the majority of my printing on the Cannon but when I need color I use the HP. I end up only needing new ink for the HP a couple times a year (depending on what we are doing in school) and a laser toner last us a good while.

    Brother!

Specifically, I have this one. And love it.

    I can ink cartridges 20 for $13.88

Between the cheap ink and the duplex printing (prints on both sides without me having to turn the paper over or around) this printer saves me a lot of money (but we do print and bind many of our own books and use mostly free resources, I print a LOT)

I had an HP and a Canon printer. Both ate ink cartridges at an alarming pace, and the replacements were expensive. I found generic cartridges on amazon one day that claimed to be compatible, and tried them out. They were about 1/4 (maybe less) the price of the cartridges from the manufacturer, and as it turned out, worked like a dream! I've since tried many knockoff cartridges and they've all worked well. So my advice would be, whatever brand you end up with, go generic for the ink! Saves lots of money.

I also have a Brother and use crazy cheap generic ink. The thing is a workhorse. It's 8 years old now and still going strong, and I print a TON. Mine does not duplex, because it was a very expensive feature back then... I keep wishing it will die so I can get a newer one that duplexes... but it keeps on going and going and going. I have never owned a printer that survived this long under "normal" use... I have had lexmark, cannon, hp.. none of them lasted more than a few years... as much as I print now, I can't imagine any of them lasting more than a few months. I whole heartedly reccomend the Brother.

PS, with the cheap ink it's cheaper for me to print in full color than it is for someone with a laser to print in black and white!

Yeah, I think you are the reason I got my 1st Brother printer, Sommer! :)

I had a different model that I liked better, but it got struck by lightening and when I went to replace it it had been discontinued and was $500 so I looked for a very similar Brother that I got for under $200.

When shopping for a printer, keep in mind that if you plan to refill the cartridges, that doesn't always work, thanks to companies putting computer chips in their ink cartridges... I had a Lexmark that we tried to refill, because I didn't know about the computer chip, wasted lots of ink because we refilled all the cartridges and it wouldn't 'read' them. :(

Any kind OTHER than what we have right now! My printer is up above the computer monitor on a top shelf. The old one had buttons on the side, and I had the button marked that I needed to hit to make copies. This new one has the buttons flush with the top, so that doesn't work. Plus it turns itself off. I need to get up on a chair to turn it on, and then to press the copy button.

Thank you all! I'm going to check out this cheap ink on Amazon and then ask for a Brother for Christmas. (LOL....growing up with all sisters I used to ask my parents for a brother all the time, I'm totally going to ask them for this printer! LOL!)

I have HP 2400C and it works well for me. Basically when I am choosing a printer I try to look for how many cartridges it is going to take so that I can get an idea of the ongoing ink cost. Printers are dirt cheap these days but buying original cartridges can drill a hole in the pocket.

I hate them all because they all hate me. I have 3 in my closet and one actually out to be used that only works sort of. I swear, printers hate me.

I prefer Brother laser printers. Nothing else I've had compares. I especially loved my AIO Brother laser I had before my current one. It just went on the fritz one day and I couldn't afford to replace it, so I got a less expensive, basic one. It prints fine, but I just can't scan.

I only buy the Brother toner. It seems like the off brands either work or don't, and I haven't wanted to risk it. The toner lasts a long time anyway.
