Sorry, after posting my other thread I should have just asked this also, but oh well. Just curious what vitamins & supplements everyone takes and have you noticed a difference in your health? Kristine
I take calcium pills. Both my mom and maternial g'ma have/had osteoporsis, and I learned it's genetic through your mother. But last year, my gyn ordered a bone density check, and mine are as good as a teen's!
Don't laugh, I take kids chewables on a daily basis. I am not able to get down the "big girl" vitamins so chewables it is. I also take them after I have eaten because I have a sensitive stomach.
When I'm good: Liquid Health for Women (liquid multi) Floridix Iron plus Herbs (also liquid) Sublingual B complex Due to the Celiac I have to take liquid vitamins or they are not absorbed. I havent taken anything since Christmas b/c I got REALLY sick with something over the holidays and I got out of the habit. What I hav ein the fridge is all bad and I have to replace. Not sure I'll be replacing with the same things or not. Kind of shopping around.
I do mostly homeopathy and herbal remedies, more than supplements. I take Sepia for pms symptoms, chamomilla for stress, natural anti-biotics for infections (I'm prone to sinus infections), etc. I do give my boys a multi-vitamin, but I am picky about brands. I only give brands that I've researched and found to have the correct proportions, which most drug store brands neglect.
So far I am willing to give Melaluca brand, Arbonne Brand (the best, from what I've looked at so far), and one from the health-food store that I can't remember the name of. I know what the bottle looks like, though..lol. Next time I go I will let you know. Keep in mind that I haven't researched every single multi-vitamin out there. I have ruled out all the major brands of kids vitamins for us, though.
When we go into the city for the day we take garlic pills. A friend told me about it and it works great so far! I havent gotten sick or if I start to feel something coming on I take an extra dose and it goes away a lot faster I think. I can buy a lot of them in gel tablets at Walmart. I also take airborne for when I am not feeling that good either. Sam
I can't take anything with iron in it or I get sick. That was very unpleasant while I was pregnant, cuz my doc kept wanting me to take prenatal vitamins, but they're so full of iron it's crazy! So I really have to be careful to check for that.
Ursodiol twice a day, B12 once a day, multi-vitamin twice a day, zantac once a day, calcium chews twice a day, Biotin once a day, synthroid once a day and something else but I can't think what I am leaving out. Oh, and a vitamin D pill once a week.
Yep, I'm with you Deena. I'm the reason LOW Iron Baby formulas exist. Even as an infant, I didn't tolerate extra iron. When I was pregnant with my oldest, the doc gave me extra iron (plus the prenatal). That didn't last long. With #2, I told the doc that I would NOT take iron and that if that was a problem, she could draw blood weekly if she needed to cover her fanny but that I was NEVER anemic in my life (up to that point and still going strong...) With #3, same thing as with #2. They never did draw extra blood. I must have been convincing. I have a naturally high iron count and I don't actually eat as well as I should....bad Mommy. I just pondered the other day about posting the same sort of question. I always buy supplements and then never seen to take them consistently (and they end up expiring in the cabinet). Rhonda C.
I think we're twins Rhonda--to the point of the same thing happening with my first, and second, and third!
I take a calcium magnesium combo (that helps with PMS and charley horses in my legs). If I forget for too long I am woken in the middle of the night quite rudely! Ouch! I use a peppermint ginger tablet when I have an upset stomache, and echinacea with the beginning symptoms of a cold. But those aren't daily. We all take a multi-vitamin (different for adults and kids) as well. My MIL wanted me to try a liquid calcium, but it is in the fridge, and honestly, I haven't taken it often enough to remember TO take it! That's about it. MT3
DH and I use Biorite Nutritionals out of Norman OK. We use the "Turbo Power" Truckers Choice. It's all natural from 72 Plant Derived Minerals. It's an Adult Liquid Vitamin and Trace Mineral Liquid. My parents are faithful users too. It is unbelievable stuff. It makes you feel great. The company was founded by a Christian couple. You'll have to check out their website. I don't get tired anymore around 2pm like I used to. I want to try out some of their other stuff too like the cleanse.
Dh and I both take New Chapter Organics. Usually anyway, I ran out and bought Nature Made multi's at the drug store. I'm not as happy with them, though. Ds is taking Koala Pals from Melaleuca.
When I was taking iron, after I had Ems, I was so sick. Even if I took it with food, I couldn't keep it down. So I stopped taking it and loaded up on foods high in iron. It worked.
I don't take anything... Must be the only one that don't I have a hard time taking asprin for a headache, let alone a supplement.
I haven't taken any supplements for a while now. I have found that since I am eating much healthier than before, I actually feel better than when I took supplements. I have a little more than a week to go with the food restrictions but I plan to keep it up afterwards.
