We are so haphazzard when it comes to start times. Today it is 11:00 and haven't even gotten started yet. Yesterday it was 10, Tuesday it was 9, and Monday it was 9. Do ya think we get lazy as the week drags on! Alright - well we better get going or we will be here all day! Oh, and BTW - it is SNOWING. In October.
We do our school work in the afternoon. I babysit a little girl and she naps from 1 - 3 so Grace does her work during that time. And could you please send the snow this way? It is in the 90s.
Ours changes depending on my husband. He works for the railroad and is called out at all hours. Right now he is on a scheduled job and so we've been starting when he leaves at 11:30. We planned on having a set schedule....but it just doesn't work for us. If we started everyday at 8 or 9 am, it would cut into their time together....right now dh isn't getting home til 1am, so their one on one time after school is not an option.
No school today But usually I try and start around 9.... now I say TRY as some days I just have a tough time getting up - LOL
We are up at 6:00, and usually starting about 7:15. That's because we're usually going SOMEWHERE, and I can get a good solid two hours in before any interruptions!
Usually between 9 and 10. DS is an early riser, so sometimes he gets started and even finished before my older DD even emerges for the day. My olders have a nice little competition going about who's ahead in number of subjects completed for the day. I think a little competition can be healthy when it motivates my kids to get moving on their school work! We usually finish around 12 -12:30 unless it's been a really late start. Then we have to take a lunch break and head back to it. The kids don't like that much, so I try to remind them of that when they aren't wanting to get moving in the morning.
Whew! I thought I was the only mother who didn't start school at 8am! We start somewhere between 10 and 11 (sometimes later). It seems to work better for us if we have a slow easy morning.
We start by about 10am. Somedays we might get started by 9 or 9:30....and of course, there are those 10:30am days too....lol. But 85% of the time its no later than 10am unless someone has an appt of some sort.
I try to start by 830, but it doesn't always work out that way! Our normal day is from 830 am until 430 pm.
We try to start by 8:15 but today it was more like 9:15 but the girls helped dust and clean bathrooms. It is nice to have the housework done! By the way it is sprinkling here. Pretty cloudy and a little windy. An indoor day for sure!
I love this thread. We usually get started around 9, although sometimes closer to 10 or 11. But I shoot for 9. My kids drag through breakfast like it's an Olympic event to see who can take the longest.
We are up sporaticallythis year, I am up at 5-530, dd goes out to school so I take her to school , meanwhile ds gets up. Starts at about 8:30 after eating breakfast etc.
It's interesting to see what other people do, and nice to know I am not the only person who starts late We get up slowly, watch a little PBS, eat some breakfast and then get to our school work sometime around 11.
We try to get started by 9:30 but here lately it has been 10:30 or 11. It's definitely nice to know that I'm not the only one that starts late.
Hi Homeschooling around my house starts anywhere from 9 to 10:30. Every day it seems to be a bit different. My son and I take my daughter to public school by 8:15. When we get home I feed my son and myself breakfast. I also sit down with a cup of coffee to wake myself up a bit. Then, we get out our homeschool materials for the day and start. We take one or two mini breaks (5 to 10 minutes here and there) and a long lunch break from 12-1:15, so we can see dh/daddy. My son and I do a little bit more work and possibly one or two chores in the afternoon. By that point it's time to go pick up my daughter at 3. I let my kids play together after they have a little snack time. Then, I spend some time with my dd doing her homework or reading to her. Dh comes home from work, we eat supper, run errands or spend a nice night at home and go to bed. Oh ya...not every day is like this though. On Fridays we have homeschool co-op classes. Sometimes we use a bit of our normal school time to run errands or visit Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt and Cousins. Whoops...you only asked about the morning start time. Well, I hope my daily routine helps you to see that I'm not an early starter or a consistent starter either.
Ya know today Grace finished a Hooked on Phonics box and we will begin the next level on Monday. Tonight she was so proud and was telling her daddy about it so I put the old box up and got out the new one. She wanted to start right away. I told her no but said how about we read some poetry so she went and got When We Were Very Young by AA Milne and we read poetry together for about 30 mins. Now THAT is what I LOVE about homeschooling!!!!
My oldest starts as soon as she finishes breakfast. She's very much a self starter, always has been. She gets up before us everyday and showers. She reads until I get out of bed, then she & I go downstairs for breakfast. She is usually done 3 subjects before my husband even leaves for work. My middle usually gets up around 8 and starts school around 9. He likes to play for a few minutes in the a.m. with his little sister. I do the youngest when I have time and energy (which isn't often) but she is only 4, so I'm not really stressed about her. Yet.
Since we're schooling OPK, and not in my home, we try to meet at the school building just before 815 so we can start pledging and singing right at 815. Last year we almost always started on time at 830, but it felt like middle of the morning before we were actually engaged in academics. So this year, we're trying 815, which isn't terribly earlier, but gives us just that much of a jump on the day. Although you didn't ask, I'll tell you that we break for lunch at 1145 - 1230, although the first and second grader sometimes have a snack around 10. We supposedly are done for 245, but actually end when their moms get there to pick them up, OR when they've finished the last little bit of whatever wasn't finished on time. If I was at home with my own kids, we'd probably get started around 10am. Maybe 1030.
