I am loving the workboxes..... everything (all subjects) seem to be doing well! Alexis (9) got an A+ on her math test and was jumping up and down with joy and wrote a HUGE A+ in purple Jacob is taking high school latin and LOVES it... go figure.... I thought he'd get through the 2 years and be done but he is really enjoying it (now remember he's in 7th grade)....
That sounds fun, Carol! I think my dd would really like that! We're going slowly until oldest ds leaves for college in two weeks. We've done some placement testing, and she's excited that she keeps passing the grammar tests! She does Unit 4 test tomorrow. I had fun with her on the CLE Math assignments! I might learn something if I keep working with her! She actually asked to do more of the type of problems we were doing! That's GREAT! She likes her history, and has been reading up the library books we're getting. We're around the Jamestown era in history, so she picked a book about that, and "The Odyssey" from the library on Monday, and has read both of them, and half of "Gulliver's Travels"! She's also listening to "Robinson Crusoe" on audio. She listened to it today while she did her art. We're having fun so far!
Oh - Alexis is listening to "The Red Fairy Book", "The Yellow Fairy Book", and reading the stories in the Green & Blue Fairy books.... she WANTS the Lilac Fairy Book - because it's purple.... <sigh> and the Pink Fairy book.....and also "Island of the Blue Dolphins" Her reading aloud to me is making her a MUCH better reader!! Jacob asked me to download "Red Badge of Courage" for him - just need to upload it to his new iPod Touch (yes I know.... but the kid had enough money to buy the thing - now I want one - but I'm broke - LOL)
Thanks yall! I kind of forgot about this thread. LOL Hubby was off last night so we've been having family time and all! Anyway. We're having a rough time getting started, so a positive thread is really helpful. Hopefully I'll have some good to post on Monday!
Everything is going well. This year we added Phonics Road to Spelling and Reading (my 2nd grader was having trouble with spelling) and the results have been AMAZING!! I'm so excited! It was worth every penny!
I'll jump in too! Instead of feeling like I had to have EVERYTHING on-hand, planned out, and ready to go before I even start, we've been "picking up speed as we go" to start this school year off. Getting back on schedule is never easy, but SO wonderful once we DO! So.... in order to "Just Do It", we started w/ things familiar like Bible LIFEPACs, math facts review worksheets, and other basics, then I've been adding in the other subjects as we go along and it's working out really well! It only took me 5 plus years of homeschooling to stumble upon this great "idea", but better late than never, right? *lol*
What's working best for us right now is our Five in A Row! My son loves it! He can't wait to read the book and by the end of the week I start making deliberate mistakes in the book and he catches me and tell's me I've got it wrong. I LOVE THIS STUFF! Wish I had found it sooner.
Well for us LLATL and Horizons Math is going great! They are both a huge hit here! We are having a rough start, yet we are still getting our stuff done. Well for the most part! lol
