I have planned the following with the kids: 1. Try new recipes with the kids either helping me or doing the whole meal themselves (Today was Chicken Parmasan and From-Scratch Chocolate Pudding with my son and youngest dd). 2. Paper Mache sculpture project 3. Sewing projects (I am very, very new at this so I'll be learning, too) 4. Getting up early before it gets hot and heading to the walking trail along the river. Just for myself, I got a college psychology textbook and 12th grade Economics book that I'd like to go through. I took the GED at the end of junior year of high school so didn't get into Econ or American Government. Homeschool is cool because now I can go through it with my oldest dd! What plans have you made for the summer? Things you normally don't get to do during the school year?
Great post! I haven't even thought of making these types of plans but I will now. DD and I both love to bake (and eat the baked things...) so I'll glean from your idea. She has been asking me to teach her to sew, which I am pretty skilled at, so I'll borrow that idea from you too! Also, our church does lots of missionary work, both locally and abroad, so I'd like to get her working on something related to that.
June is mostly travel. The first half of July is mostly goofing off. We start back to school on July 22nd and will be taking a week off every 6 wks or so throughout the year.
I'm planning on teaching my daughter how to cook meals from scratch, instead of doing the fast meals we normally do during the school year. I find summers go too fast, we have lots of plans and then don't do half what we plan. 3 weeks are taken with summer camps, maybe a fourth. summer is really only 10 weeks, so that doesn't leave much for what I plan.
swimming... lots and lots of swimming will continue working all summer on phonics practice traveling to North Carolina to see family Vacation Bible School hoping to be able to do some fun hands on stuff (paper mache sounds fun) etc etc
We made bucket list cards of all the things we want to do this summer. The kids love to see their cards hanging and it is so fun to take one down when we have completed it.
The first week of June is VBS. The second week is Cub Scout day camp. After that, I'll be tutoring math for one of my students. Don't have any travel plans -- looking forward to finishing up some stuff with the house. Oh, I almost forgot -- Cub Scout summer trip yet to be scheduled.
We're taking a shortened "summer" break this year. In the next few weeks we will: Go to the zoo play in the town fountains a few times - weather permitting get things reorganized for our upcoming school year I would love to get some sewing done - I'm having another girly and matching dresses and skirts sounds fun. hehe We'll do three weeks of school and then have two weeks off. During those two weeks two of my boys will go to day camp, my SIL is supposed to visit and we'll go bowling and maybe do a trip to the zoo again that week. In August we'll go to the county fair. Our bucket list this summer is simple, local, and as cheap/free as I can make it. I'm halfway through my pregnancy and don't want to even attempt to overachieve in the heat this summer.
Oh no! I didn't get the memo! Summer's supposed to have an AGENDA now??? REALLY??? Oh...kidding! Lets see...we joined the pool again and hope to get there as much as is humanly possible. Because we love it. And the more we're out of the house the less messy it gets! BONUS! My oldest will have an amazing volleyball clinic we found two days a week as well as a cool volleyball camp, the camp is a bit of a hike, but it's just for ONE week, so I think we'll manage! She'll also have karate. I'm working on her summer reading list. The kid has asked that The Tale of Two Cities and Lés Miserables be part of her list! ha ha ha!!!! She was just in the play for the one, and she wants to see the new movie of the other - rule in our house, if you haven't read the book, you can't see the movie! She'll also continue to work thru her Algebra book - she started it and is about 30 lessons in, still 100 to go....but I figure it'd be better for her to keep on it a couple times a week so that she doesn't have trouble restarting in the new year. And she's planning on teaching her summer Art series to other homeschoolers, she's doing 4 Polymer Clay classes and 5 Duct Tape classes. My middle is going to be very low key this summer. Just Karate for him. And as many playdates as we can fit in. My youngest will have gymnastics all summer, and a gymnastics camp once in the summer. She's also qualified for a national meet that will be held about an hour or so from our house. Our gym was chosen as the host gym, so I will be working as a volunteer the whole weekend as well. Looking forward to being on that side of this event. My oldest competed in it twice when she was a gymnast, this will be my youngest's first time. She gets measured for her state leo next Tuesday and is BEYOND excited! Me, I'll be planning for the school year all summer! And taking care of my MIL. Hoping her apartment is finished soon and she gets settled in there well so that our lives can go back to somewhat normal. She'll still be just on the other side of the wall, but more independent than now. I hope!!! Oh goodness, I hope!!!!
I plan on doing a lot of work on my blog. (www.morethanmommmy.blogspot.com) My middle child, Shari is going to be starting Kindergarten in the fall, but we are going to start on reading this summer, to give me a chance to focus on just her. She has been begging me to teach her, but things have gotten crazy, so I have been putting it off for the most part. I think we are going to put the kids in swim classes again this summer. Hopefully they will finally learn it for good!
I am looking forward to being a SAHM again (as of July 11). Now that I'll be home more, I will be spending the summer revamping the food shopping, menu, cleaning schedule, and kids activities. Other than that our plan include: the beach, a few theme parks, summer academics with ds (mainly math, spelling, and vocabulary), preparing youngest dd for her senior year of high school, and getting oldest dd her driver's license.
I WISH my last day was this Friday. They're making us wait out the full 90 days since we got notice. It's the only way we get our severance package. I sooooo looking forward to leaving.
