$180 every two weeks for a family of five.

"Down" is a relative term!!! It's still close to $2.50/gallon here, and while it's "down" from the $2.75, it's "up" from where it was just a month or two ago!

I budget $100 a week for groceries, but rarely use that much. I take a $100 bill to the store with me and any change goes in our money jar (we use this for fun stuff like movies, eating out, bowling, etc.).

    Gas is still $2.49/gal here!

By the way: Watch the weather! There's another hurricane tracking the Gulf of Mexico. If it hits in there, there's a good chance that gas prices to go up, again. (It will throw off all the off-shore production).

(In my previous life--aka "before children"-- I was a commodities trader for an energy company)

The weather people said a while back that they expect 6 or 7 hurricanes this season. Lets just hope and pray that no more hit land.

As for gas prices in mid-Michigan it is $3.21 for the cheap stuff. In New York where our best friends live its about the same.

My husband drives 75 miles round trip to work. We are filling up his car every other day and today it cost us $75 just to fill up. :(

My dh drives 50 miles roundtrip each day, and we're seriously considering getting a cheap "scooter". We found one for $3,000 that is road safe (doesn't go over 70 mph) and gets 80 miles per gallon.

I hate to be pessimistic, but I doubt we EVER see gas under $2.00 again.

I looked at the first few posts and thought wouldn't we like to go back to those prices.

zsmomma the weather man down here the south said we are suppose to have a active hurricane season and that there are 19 names given out and we have had 11 used up already. We have all of Sept, Oct. and Nov. yet then we are free for awhile.
    Lets pray nothing more happens

I think the hurricane she was reffering to at that time was Katrina (the post was dated last week).

They're watching tropical depression Lee right now (in the Atlantic Ocean) and then they said something about seeing Marie down below that! Oh Lord help us.

We got the winds and rain from Katrina yesterday... (but we so need the rain here, so I won't complain and the winds weren't near as bad as what the Gulf got).

They were predicting bad storms in central Ohio, but it just missed us. We did have rain, but it was a slow, steady all-day type rain that was really nice, considering our dry summer. The torrential downpour just never (thankfully!) occured.

Today gas is 3.09, and someone heard that in Ohio they will probably be raising it another fifty cents. We are cutting back on our driving whenever possible. Today, I had to take Rachael to 4-H Dog Training session. I was going to Meijer's during that time (the Meijer's I like best is close to there!). One other mom was going to Meijer's too, so I told her to just ride along with me and save the gas. Then we were all suppose to go and drop off newspapers at the Dog Shelter for a Community Service project. My girls will be doing it NEXT week, because the shelter is about a half-hour drive away, and next week we need to be heading out that direction for a meeting. The other moms live out that way, so they would be going right by it on their way home today. I'm even reconsidering the library we go to. I hate the one that is an easy bike ride or walk from our house, but I don't want to waste the gas going to the nicer, farther one. Though we go right by it on the way to AWANAS. We may leave for AWANAS an hour early and just plan on stopping then. Sigh....... I think I also want to go back to stocking my pantry the way I had back with the Y2K scare. It just seems everything is a bit uncertain right now.....

I had no idea the hurricane season was that long. It certainly seems the hurricanes this year are of Biblical proportions. Something is going on and we'd be wise to recognize the signs of the times.

It is 3.25 here in wi. My dh only makes 20,000 a yr and I'm not working cause it wouldn't pay to put my daughter in daycare plus I have a baby on the way in dec. We were already living on tight budget and now we are getting money from my dad every 2 weeks to afford food cause my dh went 2 weeks only eating once to make sure the rest of us had food. Food, gas, insurance is all going up and we aren't getting any extra money in. We don't qualify for housing assistance cause we are in a 3 bedroom and here they say kids less than 9 years apart can share the room even if they are boy/girl and we just signed a lease for here 2 mo ago so we are stuck. We can't get food stamps cause we'd have to bring in less than 500 a mo and there really is no help here. My dh works 6 miles away and has to take the car cause his hours are early morning ( they won't let him switch ) otherwise he'd take the bus and we only go out once every 2 weeks for groceries. My daughter and I just sit here cause there are no parks or anything nearby so....
I just pray things get better or we'll be on the street

are your kids still young enough to get wic? here even when they are too old for wic they can get a food package (from food bank). I feel for you, for we are on a tight budget too. Also try to see if you have a state insurance, you should all qualify. We are a tiny bit over the limit, or state has the same insurance for us but we pay a premium, $55 a month, that is our blessing because I am diabetic and my medicine alone, would be over $300, and it would cost my husband over $750 to add us to his work insurance. You should see if there is any one you know that you could swap clothes with (we do a clothing exchange with our home school group) but maybe your church would do it. Or your neighbors.
