I know we have talked about kids clothes on here before but I just have to express my frustration. DD is going to be a camp counselor (in training) for the next four weeks and needs to get some khaki shorts. Does anyone have any idea how hard it is to find khaki shorts?!?! Just plain ol' khakis. All I see at the store are ugly printed or denim SHORT shorts. DD calls them "shorts that look like underwear". Thank goodness, she is not at all interested in wearing them.....so I don't have to worry about fighting that battle.
We have been to several thrift stores and have found one pair of khaki shorts in the last couple of weeks. Tomorrow we are headed out of town and there is a thrift store there we can check out and, hopefully, we'll have some luck.
P.S. Did I mention that bathing suits (for teen girls) are terrible, too?

Try looking for shorts in camping or sport stores as in REI. You will probably pay a bit more. I found some in REI earlier this year that was not too short.

The skimpiness of shorts and especially bathing suits is ridiculous.

    Hope you find some shorts.

Take a look at swim suits at lovetolearn.org (.org, I think, it may be .net) they are modest well, as modest as a swim suit could be LOL, but still pretty cute! HTH

Thanks re: swimsuit! I'll check that out. Rachael needed a one-piece for her Mission Trip, and we couldn't find one!!! Now, I am pleased with some of the two-piece tankinis, especially the ones with pants-like bottoms, but that wasn't acceptable for her trip.

Some of our store have school uniforms out already with longer khakis. Maybe a store near you would? I've actually noticed that more longer shorts (bermuda style) have been available this year. I love those!!

SWIMSUITS.... UGH!!! It's even hard to find a decent one for my 6yo!! I do like tankinis just because bathroom breaks are easier. I don't even mind a two piece as long as it's not skimpy (though none of my girls have one). I hate the swimsuits for young girls that are deliberatley made to look "s*xy"... plunging necklines and the like. My dd9 is already starting to develop, but still wears a kid's size. It's been very hard to find a suit for her this year. She's just wearing her swim team suit right now. It's competition style and not "fun", but it covers all necessary parts.

This site has some cute swimsuits in more modest styles. It only goes through girls size 16, so it wouldn't help those with older girls. I had actually forgotten about it, until I read this thread.

Try WalMart or Target or whatever - in the GUYS department!

The camps my girls attend won't let any tummy show, and with some of the tankinis, the top and bottom don't QUITE meet. The one camp use to have a one-piece-only rule. I complained, saying that Rachael's two-piece was more modest than any one-piece I could find. Another mom felt the same way. I finally took a picture of Rachael in her suit, and had our youth leader take it to the camp planning meeting. So now they're allowed tankinis if their tummy doesn't show (even with arms raised, lol!)

I also vote looking at a school uniform store. Most schools that do uniforms use khakis, and most also allow students to wear shorts.

Thanks for the suggestions! I like tankinis too but we could not find on the fit DD right. She does have a one piece but it took us many bathing suit to try on before we found it.

We were able to find one pair of shorts today and will be out, tomorrow, looking for another pair.
