I am ordering some new things off Amazon to start using for school after the holiday. It comes in dribs and drabs when you order from Amazon. But, I get sooo excited when they come. You would think I just got a new piece of jewelry or something. Is anyone else like that?
Yep, I think that may be the real reason I homeschool, ( my addiction to the smell and feel of shiny new books). I just attended a Scholastic warehouse sale and I think I was the only parent that returned all 3 days to the sale lol! Enjoy the new books!
YES!!! The last thing I ordered was Phillip's new math, and it came ON HIS BIRTHDAY!!! He said it was a great b-day until he got THAT present, lol!!!
Yes and no. I have learned (finally, after several years) that the excitement usually wears off after a few days. I have also had a lot of "misses" in the past in selecting curriculum that has made it less exciting. My son is NOT like me, so what I get excited about usually is NOT what he gets excited about. Also, I have realized that there is NO magic curriculum that is THE answer for everyone. I had been on that search for so long. I would ask people what they used and I thought if I just had THE curriculum that was THE answer all would be fine. Now I know that it isn't the curriculum that makes homeschooling good or bad in and of itself, it is more the atmosphere of the home and the attitude of the parent(s) that are doing the homeschooling. There are many cool things that I have since given up on using, even though part of me still wants to use them (because they are just so cool). I have, however, found some great things through my homeschooling searches and book fairs. I have discovered YWAM publishing and Lamplighters. These are two great resources for homeschooling materials, but I often buy from them just for enjoyment. Some of the stuff I buy, my son doesn't even read--so it is not always used for homeschooling. So, yes, I love getting books in the mail. And, No, because I know that all the "cool" stuff won't work for us.
The post master knows me by name with all the books and school stuff that comes in. I get so excited, and she says let me guess... you have some more school books! I always say yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We love getting books in the mail.
2 of the 4 books came yesterday. I thought for sure the rest would come today. What a disappointment.
