I realized I never said when we start. We're in Summer Session right now, with 6yo learning to read and 4yo learning letters and both of them doing their math on occassion. Fall starts Aug. 23 here.
We started mid-June, mainly because I really talked up homeschooling to my DS and he begged to get started! I like the idea of schooling year-round b/c then we can take extended breaks for vacation, take advantage of nice weather, and not feel pressured to fit everything in during the traditional school year.
We school throughout the year but have lighter days in summer mixed with lots of outside time We will likely get back to the heavy stuff in Sept like the local PS's.
We start our year the first Monday after January 1. We school until our work fore the year is over (usually late Oct, early Nov). The kids get the holiday season off. We report to no one.
Who knows??? We just finished our last school year two days ago. I'd like to start back in September, but I'm not sure if I'll be ready by then. I might start back with a month or two of child-led projects and studies. We'll see.
Our official start date is Sept. 7th, but dd has been working on and off all summer and ds has started Math.
I am thinking we'll start when ps starts here which is Aug. 12th. My ds will have his cousin who is his age (and right next door) going back then so I think he will be more excited to start that day too. We'll see.
My plan is to start the 4.5yo Aug. 16th so we can get in a routine before my older two start on Sept. 7th. Plus the 4.5 yo is dieing to start, by the time we get to Aug. 16th he won't want to. LOL
We're in PA like crazymama, so we also couldn't start before July 1st. We started the first week of July. They spent a month with their grandparents in June, and as soon as they got back they were badgering me. "Can I do school? Can I do school?" We were on "vacation" last week - working vacation, of course! Niagara Falls, Erie Canal museum, science museum, lol - and we're sitting in the hotel vegging and my daughter's all, "Can I do schoolwork on the laptop? I have a lot of stuff overdue!" I almost fell off my bed, lol.
