I am currently working out our fall schedule for 3rd grade. I was wondering if you could read through my list and see if I am missing any major component or if you think it is too much. Any/all comments are welcome! Thanks! Arithmetic 3- A beka Language 3- A beka Spelling 3-A beka Science- Apologia Astronomy/Mcgraw Hill textbook Cursive Handwriting workbook Bible- 3rd grade Lifepacs Geography/History/Social Studies- 3rd grade Lifepacs/and another textbook Reading- lots and lots of library books! (no more A beka readers) The subjects would be 5 days a week except Science being 3 times a week and Geography/History being twice a week.
looks like a good plan. The only thing I would add would be some sort of creative writing (if it's not in another one of the subjects), even if just a weekly journal entry.
Oh thanks for reminding me! He will be doing a daily journal entry( just like he is this year!) I think we will also be trying to write a story. I will let him write the story and we will be publishing it on shutterfly! I can't wait!!
It looks fine to me. Are you going to cover health, art, or PE? I am just curious because we have to teach the same subjects as the public schools and these are required subjects in our district. But if you don't have to, that is great. If I had a choice, I would have saved health until Ems was a bit older.
Man I guess I forgot a lot of stuff on my first post. For P.E. he will be attended a P.E. class at the YMCA for homeschoolers. I need some ideas for art and health please! In my state, we have to give an education "equivalent" to the public schools, but as far as I know there is not required subjects.
Art can be anything crafty or more directed at drawing. Ems really liked A Beka's arts and crafts books. If your kiddo is not big on crafts, then you can make color wheels, paint, make projects, go to museums, do a study on a specific artist for art appreciation and history. The list is endless when it comes to art. Art covers so much territory. As for health, you can cover the foods you eat, how to prepare them, being heart healthy, how a cut heals, the eyes, ears, and so on. You can find some really cool free printables on the internet. HAVE FUN!!!!
Also, we include it with health.. because we call ours health and safety, and to cover it is required by our state laws every year.. fire safety.
Ems liked the A Beka health books up until a couple of years ago. It was around 4th grade that I noticed her interest was dwindling. So this year I put our health together and it was a big hit. I do not know if it was because it was different than the usual or if she truly enjoyed it because it was interesting.
We actually don't 'have' to do health yet, but I find myself talking about eating right, physical activity, hygiene, etc. all the time anyway. I have only used an actual health book once, and that was Abeka in first grade because it was given to us. I'm not sure it really had anything in it we didn't already discuss so I didn't get one for this year.
