I sure will! I told my DD today about homeschool, and how people can start their own school, and I could be her teacher. You should have seen the smile on her face! Really? she said. I told her we would have to pick a name for our school. Her next question was Can we get a Smartboard? Oh dear...

Yay!! I think this is a great thing you are doing! If you didn't already know, here is the NC Dept of Non Public Ed website, with instructions for registering your homeschool.

    http://www.ncdnpe.org/registration/hhh110a.aspx

Also, I HIGHLY recommend attending the NC Homeschool Convention May 23-25. It's in Winston-Salem and is HUGE! Lots of great seminars and a book fair, where you will learn so much just by talking with all the vendors. Learn more here: http://conference.nche.com/

I don't know yet if I'm going this year, but message me your email and if I go we can meet up.

    Good luck!! :)

Ok. I saved the registration site to go back to when it is time to register. Now do I officially withdraw her from public school on the last day of this year?

You just have to provide them with a letter of intent to homeschool. I personally would send it over the summer. I didn't send mine until after I registered my homeschool, but it doesn't matter. It just lets the school know not to plan for her and to put her file away. Your letter just has to let them know that you intend to homeschool and she won't be attending school as of whatever date.

Wow! You're super grandma! It sounds like she's been through a lot in her young life, and she is so blessed to have you looking out for her. I think homeschool sounds like a great fit for her. Right now, my daughter is in a private school kindergarten, but we plan to start homeschooling next year as well. I'm already really excited about finding other programs/groups to be a part of. My daughter is very shy as well, and I think she'll do better when I'm involved in her social groups. If she is passionate about the horse training, she'll be able to spend more time with that. My daughter loves to swim and we just joined a swim team that she LOVES so far.
