I just made the cutest thing to help with word families! I actually didn't have to make it but cut it out from a workbook I had, but easily you could make your own. The cut out is just a lady bug shape (about5-6 inches long) and looks like a lady bug, but on the right hand side it has the letters ug the it has a stip of letters that goes into 2 slits you cut on the lady bug, about an inch wide and the slits are just slightly larger than your strip of paper with your letters. One end of the strip fits throuth one slit and then through the other slit, so the letters slide into view one at a time to make words. I slightly bent the letter strip on each ends so that it would not slide out if the kids use it. (the fold catches on the back of the slit and won't pull out when you get to the end of the letter strip unless pulled really hard). the letters on the letter strip are: b d h j m r t so of course the words your child will mare are: bug, dug, hug, jug, mug, rug, tug If you have clip art you could easily find a lady bug or other bug shape to make this, and make sure your letters are big but you can make a hen and do the en word family. a cat and do the at family, a pig and do the ig words.
I have so many K books left over (because I used so much on the internet and it was easier on my ink to get from internet than make colored coppies from book) but I saved them because they have a few cute things I still can use. like puppets for Thanksgiving and other stuff.
I did this with a apple, I think i got it from the mailbox magazine site. I'll have to find it at home in our apple folder and post the words, Madison really enjoyed it!
