Hey all! I haven't been on here for awhile, but I was just reading a bunch of posts to catch up and I saw a common thread. Mom's wanting to work from home and actually make money doing it. I just want to share my experience and hopefully help other moms who want to work from home. (No this is not a sales scheme LOL!) The basic premise... find something you know about... buy low and sell high. I started with jewelry supplies because that's what I know. I fell into it almost accidentally. I needed some supplies and started looking for a specific thing... called a glue on bail. I found a supplier selling them CHEAP on eBay, but I didn't need 1000 of them! I bought them anyway, kept what I needed, and put the rest up on Etsy just to hopefully get my money back and they sold almost instantly! Cool! I bought some more, and sold them quickly, about doubling my money. I took what I earned and bought more things.... and it grew. I do a lot of research online to find things through wholesalers, buy in bulk, repackage into smaller quantities, and sell them on Etsy! I tried selling my jewelry on Etsy, but it was SLOW going. There is so much jewelry on Etsy I just couldn't compete. But all those jewelry makers want supplies! And they buy them! A lot of them! You can buy your supplies online. You can do your shipping from home and schedule free pick ups with the post office. You don't have to leave your doorstep if you don't want to. I don't make thousands. I only make hundreds. But it helps! I've been growing my business for about three years and I now make enough to cover all our monthy groceries, gas, and fun money. Leaner months for my Etsy sales means leaner grocery months. We adjust. A lot of you are thrifty here. You know how to find a deal. So use those skills and resell those items! Know more about fabric? Sell fabric! Know more about electronics? Sell electronics! Know about coupons? Sell coupons (actually you can't sell them... people pay you for the time it costs to find and clip them). For many years before I found Etsy, I did the eBay thing and resold baby clothes and name brand jeans I found at garage sales. Whatever you know.... find it cheap and sell it for more. It takes research, and a certain type of spirit, but customers are out there! Anyway.... I just wanted to share this idea with other homeschool moms in hopes that it will help you out a bit! If anyone has questions I'm happy to answer them! Edie - Homeschooling mom of three
Repairing things is a way to make money from home also. I did computer repair for 11 years. Also did alot of av hookups, and other odd jobs that came up along the way.
I would love to do my eBay business again - we did really well with that and paid for many vacations that way. Of course a farm kinda gets in the way But I will start selling stuff from our house soon to clean and pay for extras etc..... I do a direct sales business now - only because it's "my girly" thing with 3 girls in the house - LOL
