    Sorry
I know that I have seen this here before but I am unable to find it. I need to find a legit job that I am able to do from home or else I have to send the kids back to PS which they hated and find daycare for my 18 month that I can't afford. I thought about going back to work at night but my DH's work schedule is so weird that you never know for sure when he'll be home. He deals with water systems for the major cities around here so if anything happens than he has to be able to go at a moment's notice. He is on call literally 24/7. Please I am open to any ideas and I really can't afford to be scammed. Pampered Chef and Tupperware are pretty much out around here. everyone and I mean everyone does it. There are three reps for pampered Chef just on my street and all three say that business is failing because people can't afford it. So any help would be great

What about babysitting in the afternoons/evening?
    or
delivering pamphlets etc ( you could head out and do it in the morning before you start school)
    or
selling on ebay - have a big clean out from cupboards and robes
    or
    pet minding/dog walking
    or
ironing for others in the evening

off to brainstorm a little more, while I have a cuppa.:)

I was babysitting but the people I sat for had a heck of a commute to my house and with the cost of gas, it just wasn't fesiable. She also had issues with me homeschooling the girls. She gave me my two weeks notice on Monday. I guess I will try to post some more fliers while the girls are at music class today. My problem here is that all of the moms stay home. We will in a pretty wealthy community. How I ever ended up here I will never know. The house was a good deal I guess. Dog watching might not be to bad, it would help give the girls some responsiblity.

do you type or anything like that. Might want to put a sign up at local colleges to type papers.
What about cleaning houses? Can you do that or office buildings?

If you have a quite place to work there are places like West at home. I don't have anywhere to go that is quiet enough in my house to do telephone work.. but you bet your bumm if I did, I would be doing it.

Check out ratracerebellion.com and you want to work for a company, not be an independant contractor.. easier for tax reasons.

I wish I could clean houses or dr offices. The problem is I live so far away from civilzation. I would be spending more in gas to get there than I would be making. The closet thing to us is a mini mart, and it is ran by a family and they don't hire outsiders. I can't get over the cost of day care around here. I charge 20.00 a day for the whole day and don't charge when the kids don't come. The daycare center I used to work at before I had my youngest wants to charge me 225.00 a week and that's just for the baby that doesn't count if I would need afterschool care for the girls. That's what I would probably make in a week so it would just be going for daycare expenses. I posted fliers today for babysitting and running errands hopefully someone will bite

I second the ebay thing. We have so much we don't use. That could bring in some cash.

Do you craft at all? If you do sell your wares at etsy.com. I shop there all the time for WAHM's that make their own stuff.

I sell Shaklee, but It mostly just pays for all our vitamins, cleaning products and lotions. I get a bit leftover but not much. But it works for us. Although I only worked it hard for 6 months. Everything I make is risdule. The most I made in one month was $1000.00 If you are interested just pm me. The start up cost is as cheap as like $35.00 up to 350.00. Pretty flexable and they have a buy back program.

If you craft though. Etsy is the way to go.

What kind of area do you live in? Do you have any special skills? What have you done before?

    *Tutor from home
*if you were a teacher you can do online tutoring/teaching classes via web
*Go mobile if you were a hairdresser, groomer etc..they can go mobile.
*Get rid of the junk in your house and look for other junk and make into treasures. Sell on ebay/craigslisting/Have a one a month or every other week yard sell.
*holidays are coming up stores hire just for this time only for night stockers
*offer to pick up kids from school like a taxi especially if you have a mini van(need to have insurance for this)

Dollar stretcher has some great articles on it http://www.stretcher.com/menu/topic-i.htm#makingextramoney

If you live in the country and kind do a special garden to sell things or animals (chickens) etc...lots of ideas

Used to love the ebay stuff but now I sell mostly on craigslisting/homeschooling group I skip the middle man. I was a library tech for years so I know about media stuff and what its worth so this is sort of my speciality ...once I found some kids books and bought it for $5 I ended up selling them well over $100 on ebay. Last month I bought a video collection for $5 I know they sell for well over $40 new but I sold mine for $25 and made a $20 profit.

If I did it more I could probably make more money but I dont do flea marketing each week.

The cost of daycare is the exact reason I quit working. When I just had my oldest I was co-managing a convience store. I had to be available 24 hours a day. Hubby worked for Verizon back then, and was on the road alot, so that meant I was home alone with Garrett, it also meant that I needed a daycare that provided 24 hour service. The cheapest one I found was 150 a week to keep your spot open, it included 40 hours a week care, you had to provide your own meals, snacks etc. and you paid if your kids were there or not, and if you went over in hours it was 5 bucks an hour! Then to put gas in my truck to drive to work it ended up that I would be paying 75 bucks a week to work since I worked 60+ hours most weeks.

We had to make some major adjustments financially, but it is best that I stay home. I know what kind of care my kids are getting, and I don't have to pay a fortune to work!

I did the ebay thing for a while, and was making about 400 a week in profit, and that was consistant for about 3 or 4 months, but then the shipping and such just got to be too much for me to keep up with, and I started running into some real jerkky buyers and said enough is enough.

I sold off alot from around the house, and we would yard sale and flea market for things to list as well. My favorite things were old toys and collectables. I bought an M&M tie for 10 cents and sold it for 25 bucks.

Thanks for your input everyone. This is so hard. the area we live in is mostly summer homes. the school district houses two towns and there are only 500 kids from pk to 12th so a you can see it's small. The closest town is about 45 minutes away. There are more woodland creatures than people. I will just keep punching away, I guess. hopefully someone will call about the fliers I posted yesterday. Thank you all!!

so I decided to go the ebay route and see how it works out. I have a ton of books, cds and video games that we never use anymore. plus the girls clothes. I have never used ebay before. so I figured I would start the cleaning out process on Monday. I would set up my accounts to day for paypal and ebay and do all the tutorial. Thanks for the idea. i was a little skeptical at first, but since some of you have used it. I'll give it a try.

Here was my secret for ebay.. I used the rate calculator for shipping, as it is very accurate, I do have a postal scale, so it made that easier. Then you can add a handling fee to that, I always added what I figured my listing fee and paypal fee would be, usually about 2-3 bucks. I would print my shipping labels with postage on them right from paypal, and request carrier pick up at my house. Often times I would have the mail man come right to my house for them, since I have a 1/4 mile driveway, and don't like to leave things down on the road by the mailbox. You can get free ebay priority mail boxes delivered right to your house too, that is a blessing! I would buy brown paper to cover boxes that weren't going priority. I used lots of clear box tape as well. I would buy these things at dollar tree or dollar general.

I looked in to the West Company thing. It sounds great, but, I'm afraid my house wouldn't be quiet enough. I also have a hearing loss, so phone converstaions can be difficult for me.

With rising gas and food prices, we are really starting to feel a strain. I'm looking for something to make a little extra money, too. Dh and I co-applied to be Activities Director for our HOA, but it's not really a lot of money ($160/month before taxes). Still, it's something we don't have now. We're trying to get out of debt, so any extra money will be used to put towards that.

I used to do ebay, but like others have mentioned, the fees got so expensive that I quit. I might try doing more on Craigslist.

I've done quite a bit craigslist selling. The only downside is the no-shows, it's quite annoying. At least with ebay when they say they're going to buy, they buy.

Both of my sons used to write for a website called articlesandcontent. (They won't let me post the web address since I haven't been a member long, but I bet you can guess what it is! They paid them once a week and it was a set rate. I think they made at least $10-12/hour. You don't have to be an incredible writer - it's just writing for different websites. They have a list of topics you can choose from. You can check it out anyway!
