I am trying out Aleks math for the month with their free trial. I just gave Noah the test and he placed at a 3.5 grade level. Woo Hoo! He's only 7 and in second grade Horizons! I do have 3rd grade Abeka to start next week, because he's just about done with Horizons 2.
Way to go Noah! I am so impressed with Horizons math right now!

Yep, that's why I chose Horizons when we started. My oldest at her "exit" math test from her Dept of Defense school scored at 5 gr 8th month. Through studying for her Terra Nova tests had gone up 2 years from Dec to March all because she could do concepts but they had never bothered to introduce them until it was test time.

Anyway, I knew that Horizons was advanced in many areas and by using it she would be challenged without me having to worry about which book/level to skip, etc. She's doing Hor 4 this year but I'm sure that she could go to a 6th grade book in other programs (but we'll stay with Horizons 5 when she's done).

My middle is doing Horizons 2 also and I know that she's doing things that the oldest did learn until 3rd grade in ps.

    Way to go Noah!!

I just "joined" for the free accessment test. Today I noticed you can select your state and it shows you exactly what has been accomplished within those benchmarks (2 of 5 etc.)
    Heres the address.

I might have to keep it now, it really looks good.
