aggghhhh. and what you all said.
I am so frustrated and I want to LOOK at these books. At the bookstore the workbook type stuff only goes up to 6th, sometimes 7th grade. I looked at Amazon (where I usually go for samples...the cbd sample page links didn't work. ugh ugh. I bought a hardbound text at a used bookstore and read through it and just laughed. It would have been fine for the girls...quite in depth but not for the boys.
I still am struggling to get them to write complete sentences. and to use more words...I am getting paragraphs like. The ball was round. The ball was smooth. The ball tasted like plastic. It bounced. This is a dumb assignment. (the last one thrown in to see if I am paying attention.) 7th GRADE...at this point the girls were writing 10 page papers for the heck of it.
I have no requirement that they write creatively. I think writing is a bit like painting or dancing and both are creative in these other ways. But they need to know how to write a research or comparison paper...technical stuff.
I hate to buy something I can't see...anyone have any ideas on where to see sample pages?

Oh...and by the way, I would be willing to send on the 6th grade writing book for some sort of trade or shipping cost or whatever. It is Bk English 2001, brand new.
Chapters include Using your Writing Process
    Using Words Powerfully
    Writing with Sentence Variety
    Personal Writing
    Discriptive/Observation
    Writing about literature.
    and more.
It actually covers everything I want to cover....but it is never going to work for us. We need a workbook. (sigh) don't you hate it when "thier" learning style isn't "your" learning style?
