    Been fretting over Art.

Well a wonderful woman at a local retirement community is going to teach a 5 week class on Watercolors (she's a fairly noted local painter here in our area - her work is on display at our local library this month, too).

FREE!!! All we have to do is get a half decent set of watercolors and brushes....she's providing paper and everything else free of charge!

We start next Weds...so I guess October is Watercolor Month :D

She's not committing to teaching any others but she's a cross-medium artist so she might. I sure hope she does!

    Wow - free?!

That is one reason we joined the charter this year - we couldn't afford to do all of the kids interest out of pocket, so at the charter, my artist can do art, my singer can sing, my science freak can do cool science exp.

What a blessing for you and congrats on your find!

    oh that's awesome! :)

the hs'ers group here gets together for art lessons taught by a local artist, but we can't afford the charge for it (it's like $80 for 6 sessions or something) ...

I KNOW!!! That's why we werent' going to do actual classes and was going to do my own thing! I just couldn't justify classes that were $12/week PER CHILD...that would be $24/week for us! No.

I'm praying/hoping next year to get into this great parent led/parent run co-op where they have Art classes (and a TON of other things too). The WHOLE year costs $55 per family. I will have to work somewhere in it as a helper or something - but I'm TOTALLY willing to do that. I keep hoping that it will work out. It will mean changes to our schedule, and I'll have to sacrifice my Tuesday a.m. bible study. BUT, the payoff for the kdis will be SO worth it.

We are actually taking two are classes right now. Rather, Eli is. He and Quin both go to one that the city art's council put together for kids ages 3-6. It's $20 per child per 8 week session. So $40 for both for two months isn't so bad. Then Eli goes to a homeschooler's academy that does art, music, drama, and PE. It's 3 1/2 hours once a week and costs $30 p/month. Also, not so bad.

But free??!! That would be better ;)

The university here has a free class once a week for 3-5 year olds, but lately Jack has not been wanting to go. And now that school has started up and there is so much more traffic there, I have not pushed it. I am a lazy mom some days!

Fortunately for us, both of these classes are in the same day. Otherwise, I would probably keep them home more often than not. But it's nice to have a solid, all day plan for Monday. There's no time to get distracted and just decide to stay home.
We get up, eat breakfast, and get out the door by 8:30. After I drop the older two off, I have just enough time to grocery shop with just the baby (oh how nice that is), get the stuff home and cold stuff put up, then back out to get the others. We come right home (arriving around 11:30), eat lunch quickly, then out the door by 12:15 to get Eli to Academy.

See? No time to get distracted...lol.

Art classes are great. Ditz started out in my oils class & now goes to a minatures class with her art teacher. She is the only child allowed & the ladies spoil her rotten. She helps out though; her eyesight is better & her little hands more nimble.

We lost our art teacher from last year. I've been using the program called Drawing Basics With Thomas Kinkaide. It's really nice and easy to follow. I'm using from the libray.
