Yesterday was a wonderful day. My highschooler is always doing well, but the boys... not always. So yesterday was wonderful! Cooperation, manners, getting work completed, and completed efficiently. From all 3 kids! DGS and I were reading his story, alternating pages or paragraphs, and when we finished, I told him how much better he was reading. He looked thoughtful, then said, "I finally realize how important this reading stuff is to y'all. I'm starting to like it more." :D Yes, the better you get at it the more you'll enjoy it.

And then there was today... 4th grader got to school with a scowl, and it didn't get a lot better. He was rude to DH who was trying to teach him, but the boy kept talking while DH was talking/teaching. Actually, math went pretty well, but this was science. Finally DH got fed up and sent him away from his desk. I put him on his knees. Got a "I'm ready to do my work now" and let him get up with the promise he'd do better. Tried again -- same thing, talking the whole time DH was teaching him. And this is one-on-one, so you'd think... but no. Had to send him away from the desk again. Back on his knees. A little longer this time. Finally, he got the idea and they were able to finish the lesson.

This kid was sent back to the kneeling spot about five or six times today. He did NOT want to listen while I'm trying to teach him how to do grid drawing, insisted on doing it his own way. I erased his work more times than I could count and pointed out very specific things to do - no more, no less, just what I say. Back to the kneeling spot. Same thing with handwriting. We never got to geography today at all.

But by the end of the day, we were friends again, "I'm sorry for giving y'all a hard time today Ms. Linda." Told him I loved him, gave him a hug, and the last handwriting he did was WAY better because I made him fix. every. letter. until it was as right as it was going to get. He was very worried that I not tell his mom. But of course I did, and was sure to tell her he's already had his punishment and we're past that, so he doesn't need to be punished at home. You take care of home, we'll take care of school.

And DGS had told me that he'd done his LA homework yesterday, but of course he didn't, so he did it while on his knees. Never got to reading, social studies, or science today because he spent half the day finishing his LA. :x

Okay, somebody tell me it's because it's Friday the Thirteenth... I'm soooooo tired.
