Yom Kippur begins at sundown tonight. This is the Jewish day of Atonement. If you'd like to learn more about Yom Kippur (which to many Jews, is the most important Holy day of the year), visit these sites:

    Judaism 101

    Jewish Virtual Library

    Torah.org

    Jewish Outreach Institute

If you'd like to help your children learn more about this Jewish Holiday, here are lessons plans and teacher's resources for you:

    Teacher Planet

Yom Kippur for Kids and Teachers

    PK-12 Units Studies and Resources

I don't see this as a "Christian Issue" since it's not a Christian Holiday. But, rather, a holiday that all children, regardless of beliefs, should at least learn a little about in order to more fully understand the world around us. Hence my listing this in "Homeschooling".

Eagle's Wings also just published a fabulous book on celebrating the Jewish holidays and festivals throughout the year. We do some type of observance for Yom Kippur and for Passover every year. We then add one more to the mix during the year.

Lately, my dh and I have been learning about the old Jewish holidays and have thought it wouldn't hurt, even as Christians, to start celebrating Jewish holidays. I know we don't have to, but I'd like to know more about the ways of our ancestors and I'd love to teach my children about what our ancestors did before Christ came.:)

That Judaism 101 website is very resourceful!:D Thanks, Amie, for listing the kids websites! Those are great!
