Hi. I didn't want to hijack Becky's thread, but was curious what you meant by "ordering a book of literature guides for Phillip"? Can you tell me what this is? I'm looking for lit guides and am swamped with ideas but I don't know where to start! Thanks! MT3
It's called Inside Stories, from Dandy Lion Press. I got book one (labeled grades 3 & 4) a while back for Rachael, and have used it some with all three kids. This year, I ordered book 2 (grades 4 & 5) for Phillip. Each book has study guides for about ten different books. These are mostly questions and vocabulary (for about 3 chapters at a time). I have the kids look up the words in the dictionary, and then answer the questions. No big deal! http://www.amazon.com/Inside-Stories-Book-Childrens-Literature/dp/0931724503/ref=pd_sim_b_1#
Thank you Jackie! I've bookmarked those to look at later. It's good to have a review from someone I "know"! The books I chose for my co-op Lit classes are being tough to find Lit guides for that aren't a lot of "work" on my part. Progeny Press guides look wonderful, but we are doing three books in a 12-wk session, so I only need 4 weeks of study for each book- very hard to pick and choose what to use! I can see using these books though for our reading/Lit at home. Thanks again, MT3
thanks momandteacherx3! THis past week I have been thinking about the same thing! Will have to look at these books my oldest will be doing "Anna of Green Gables" starting next week, but was looking for something to do with the 3rd grader.
Faythe did Progeny Press with Anne last spring, but it took her FOREVER, so we finally just finished reading it without doing the guide, too.
so this is a what I call "SHORTS" version? Or i it full books with the questions and essay stuff? Sounds great , and rightlike what I am hoping to do wiht ds ... next semester.. I have him overloaded this one! ME TOO
Of course, I can't find the one I have right now to be more specific! Let's say there's 20 chapters in a book. In the Guide, they'll have a page of questions to do "Before you read" (I think..?). Then there will be a page for Chapters 1-4. At the top will be a list of vocabulary words, then a bunch of questions that cover those chapters. The same for the other chapters. Then there's a page of summary questions at the end. There MIGHT be a page of more in-depth ideas (ie: build a diarama, or research some topic), but I don't remember. But mostly it's just questions and vocabulary.
okay so we get the book from our own source and use these books to studythem out? Ithink I have that right?
