I just wanted to post a word of encouragement to you all that even when you think you aren't do a good job of teaching your children that you really are. I learned this lesson yesterday from a school teacher (christian School teacher). I had asked her if she would sit with my oldest son and see what she thought of his reading, because nothing I tried was working. Well, she sat with him and listened to him read first an easy book, and then a book on the level he should be. Her opinion, he's fine! There is nothing wrong with his reading ability at all, he simply doesn't like to read and doesn't want to do it. She did give me a few tips to help encourage him more, but all in all she said I was doing a perfect job of teaching him. I should add that she is also a member of our church and a trusted friend so I know she'd be honest with me. She said he's just like her own daughter, capable of reading (a little slower than their peers, but on the same level) but doesn't prefer to read. So remember even when it seems your child isn't where he/she should be, or isn't learning what you think he/she should learn, your child IS learning and will be better for it! You can do this and it will be fine, trust your gut, don't doubt yourself, and just keep truckin' because it will all be worth it in the end and your child will be fine when it's all said and done.
The aspect of faith seems fundamental to homeschooling. There is something good happening even though it is hard to observe when your with your kids day in and day out. And your encouragement is helpful. Thanks!
Thank you! I will admit..that I have recently had doubts running through my mind as to whether or not I am doing right by my children.I feel unorganized most of the time, more scatterbrained than usual lol.Expressing this to my family is not an option. So reading it here really made me smile and even breath a sigh of relief.Although it wasn't directed specifically at me,I sure needed to hear that!
I'm so glad you got the encouragement you needed about your son. And thank you so much for passing it on to us, too. I am sure we all have times we worry about how we are doing as our children's teachers, i know I sure do.
