because suddenly this forum is SUPER busy!
Many have already started, but yesterday and today seemed like a huge jump in how many posts were available.

So anyone doing anything special for the start of their "new" year? We are going to San Fransisco the week before to unwind and have fun before we jump in! Some of my resources aren't showing up until next week at the earliest, so I need to get lesson planning going!

Best of luck and Happy learning to all the families either just getting started or gearing up for the new year!

I noticed that also! I am still gathering up all my stuff. I have no set start date yet since I am waiting for a few orders to come. I also have nothing special to kick off the year...that's a good idea though. I thought of taking all the kids out to breakfast to discuss the new year and have a field trip that day. I never did it..maybe I will this year.

I thought the surge in use was the south was starting to get really hot and everyone is inside and wanting to talk now.

I have been gone for a week and there are pages of stuff to read.

Yes, this is the time of year to kick it into high gear for schooling and I am excited to be starting to homeschool this fall! So much to do! I also want to get back to the Abacos Bahamas before starting, so I am in crunch time!

I'm ready year round. We "school" all year and already have 19 days in for this school year. Our summer vacation is usually a fall vacation instead. Can't wait till Sept!

I love getting ready for school in late summer. We do some modified schoolwork over the summer - math, langauge, guitar, general reading - but not scheduled, nothing formal. I just love getting everything ready and getting back to the schedule. I start to freak out after too much unscheduled time!

Im getting antsy. Last year was a GREAT school year and we are really looking forward to this year.

We started last week. I said on Sunday..."School starts tomorrow!"
"Hey," said Jazz "I thought you said school starts NEXT week."
"Tomorrow IS next week dear." lol.
We are doing 4 ish days a week to start. Like today is an off day because I worked a B shift last night.
Last week we took off friday because my brother was here.
Want to get a bit ahead tho' because we are taking a vacation in Sept. (San Fran is on my list too!)
Haven't settled on a math curric. (for Jazz)
The computer (desktop) is in the "shop" so some stuff has to wait. (I had all the History downloaded to that one...might have to set up the laptop for it.)
I am a bit misty eyed as it looks like this is our "last" year. sigh. (but I am keeping my options open.)

I am finishing co-ordinating sports classes and guitar, so we should be ready to start right after our trip! Mom2five - I agree, I am definitely more excited than my kids are! :)

This is my first year and we started off this summer. I hope to keep us going year round from here on out.

June, I think, is when we began. We're learning to read and write this summer, 6yo is making great strides. 4yo is chugging along like I knew he would.

This summer we've just been progressing through "spare parts" of workbooks and such, and focusing mostly on reading with TRL, its great. In the fall 6yo is going to get a formal curriculum through virtual school that he and 4yo will share.

By New Years, both 4yo and 6yo should be reading fluently. Once learning to read is out of the way, reading to learn can begin in earnest ;). Thats when the real the fun starts.

We are year round so I don't really kick off school. I do let them pick a new notebook and some cool pencils ( love when school supplies go on sale!!) though.

We vacation in the fall/winter too (next up is a week long river rafting trip) so summer is still school with only a few short breaks (family, friends visit year round when you live in Vegas).
I am thinking of taking the girls to do a field trip of their choice when the local schools start back up but I don't know yet.

ooo yeah its defintiely hot here. i wanted to take the kids out to play but really its unbearable out there! sooo we are in doing lots of schoolwork & im doing lots of blogging &posting lol.

I started our official school year in june.. so this is our 8th week. I plan to school year round too, our breaks will be christmas-new years most likely, and the occasionally couple days where we have other stuff going on. That'll work for me for now becuz my boy doesn't think of schoolwork as schoolwork yet.. it's all fun to him so far :p
